My wife is planning to buy me a tool set for my birthday and asked me to provide a few options so she can choose which one to gift me. What tool sets would you recommend?

If money is not a factor, your favorite local tool truck. But if you want a good value and don’t wrench professionally:

this kit hasn’t let me down, and is backed by a lifetime warranty. Add in a set of good screwdrivers and a rail of etorx sockets and you should be covered for basic to intermediate diy Supra projects.

The gear wrench set has NO missing socket sizes. my biggest pet peeve when sets will randomly omit a 13mm or something.

When I filtered out what I care about, only the Dewalt and GearWrench came out ahead. Everything else had too much useful stuff missing.

Dewalt uses an annoying design which I've found always drops shit as the box ages and no longer holds sockets properly. PISSES me off. I will gladly pay extra money to not chase dropped sockets around on the ground every time I open it.

careful not to get the gearwrench set with 12 points. Note the picture here shows a central handle, mine was delivered with the side handles.

That looks exactly like mine. I love it!! I have a bunch of tools in my garage for when I used to wrench around more and I still go to that sucker, lol. Take it to the track as well.

I just bought a pittsburgh 303 piece tool set and it was like $200. Quality is close to Snap-on I've been told by numerous techs and they also have a lifetime warranty on nearly all tools.

Can get it at harbor freight

I've been happy with everything I've gotten from Tekton to replace/supplement my aging Craftsman set.

I bought a Dewalt set at Costco for around $100, in store seasonally 3 years ago and I see it around Christmas time yearly. Kit has sockets and wrenches I needed so far to do starter, battery, spark plugs, brakes pads/rotor and other small projects. Nothing fancy or high end but does the job and cheap enough to buy another set 10 years down the road as pieces start going missing. Has 2 of those famous 10mm socket and one of the 10mm wrench.

That basic kit at Home Depot that was mentioned is always on sale and I’ve bought a few just to restock my missing sockets that the shop gremlin steals. For random odds and ends harbor freight is just fine. Get your floor jack there. The Daytona one. Best bang for your buck and it fits under a lowered supra.
If you want something a little nicer that’s useful, look into the Wera ratcheting wrenches and the hex keys/torx keys. They’re very nice quality. It’s a little more expensive but well worth it. Might be a future purchase once you get the bug to buy tools all the time for no reason.
