Bestcar has been bringing out reliable information about the jdm cars as they did with the new Supra. So we can think that rumours are true about the 2.4 n/a boxer. Good thing is toyota manage to keep the weight at 1250 kg. But i am not really sure about the design. From the back and side curves are resembling the hyundai genesis coupe. And front seems like un-characteristic.
But i honestly don't understand why they can't bring out little more interesting stuff with the engine.
From my point of view, previous yaris grmn has the engine that very well suitable for the gt86. 1.8 supercharged inline 4 would be perfect combination with gt86 chassis - of course along with few updates-. (just look at the acceleration and sound videos of yaris gmrn)
In lotus elise i believe that engine can be pushed up to 250 hp.
I think that as longitudinally mounted and coupled with the current 86 transmission, this engine can do wonders. For a start, it is a much more lighter engine from fa20 and this will help to keep weight down even further and also weight distribution will be greater.
Maybe they can upgrade the engine with the new head -which can be revved to 7500- and toyota's d4s to keep emissions in control. Also little more boost than the yaris, this engine easily can produce 240 hp / 260 nm torque. Also to keep the center of gravity low as the current car, engine always can be assembled with an angle - like the bmw m cars- .
As a result:
1220 kg rwd coupe with 240hp/260nm and manual transmission. And also for the grmn version, they can always bring out little bit more boost and throw a little weight (something like 1190 kg , 260 hp/ 270 nm)
Along with great chassis it has and these power figures i believe this combination would have been the modern time jdm hero for enthusiasts. Wish they could built it
