Hey guys,

I recently broke a control arm and had it replaced, but now I notice a vibration in the wheel and seat when I get passed 80mph. I had the car aligned and the wheels rebalanced, which helped a bit, but I still feel the shakiness. Do y’all have any vibrations or shaking when driving at that speed, or is it just smooth all the way to the limiter? The mechanic who worked on my car says he doesn’t feel anything so I wanted to know what you guys are experiencing.

No solution ahead:
Stupid stuff to check: tire pressure, did they rotate tires? Maybe one had bad uniformity/imbalance and now it's at the front...
How did you break the control arm, was anything else damaged? Maybe you're missing a damaged part.

Thanks for the response MaC, my tire pressure is fine, I did get my Tires rebalanced, as for rotating the tires are brand new and you can’t rotate them because the rear is wider than the front.
I hopped over a small object that ripped the control arm in half. I took it to a collision specialist for repairs, but I’m beginning to suspect that something was not properly installed.
But I get your point, it could be any number of things and you got to go 1 by 1.

I'd start with the small and easy stuff that you might be able to do in your garage or driveway first. Remove each wheel and look for debris or anything that could've been lodged in the tread after you picked it up from shop. Clean the contact surface of the wheel between the hub and the hub itself. Remount and torque to spec using the 5-point-star alternating bolt tightening method. Do you have spacers? Usually, but not always, the source of a constant vibration at high speed is related to rotation - either the wheel, tire, hub or any spinning part.

Thanks for the response, I do have wheel spacers on my car, I’ll take your advise and remove each wheel and inspect them myself. Hopefully I can find the source of the issue.

If I was you before I did anything I would 100% have the mechanic in the car and show him the shaking, something is not right

I forgot to mention that the driver side front and rear tires are 4000 miles older than the passenger front and rear tires. Would this be enough difference in tread to cause problems?

On bmws it is very crucial to put the suspension under load when tightening things like control arms up or the thrust arms. A normal body shop technician may not know this and your bushings may be bound up.
