Hi all, new owner here. I recently picked up a 2022 Supra 3.0 Premium and wanted to see if anyone has experienced issues with keyless entry not working.

The smart key system does not seem to function with either key fob. Per the owner’s manual, fully grabbing the handle should unlock the car and holding a finger on the handle indentation for one second should lock it, but neither works.

I’ve also noticed that when I get in and press the start button, the car occasionally does not start on the first press. The dash shows the key is detected and that the car is ready to start, and I have to press the button again. This happens roughly every other time. I’m not sure if this behavior is normal.

I’ve replaced the batteries in both key fobs and checked the keyless entry sensor under the trunk. It’s clean and securely connected.

I came across an older thread where the dealer replaced the door handles and that resolved a similar issue. I have a dealership appointment scheduled for Saturday, but the warranty will only cover half of the repair. Any insight from others who have experienced something similar would be appreciated.

Regarding the door handle thing, I've noticed that it requires the key to be in my pants pocket. If it's in a backpack or shoulder sling bag, the car thinks it's too far away to lock/unlock and nothing happens.

Do you notice any change in Behavior by holding the key in different locations around the door or hatch?

I usually keep the key in my right pocket. The system still doesn’t work even if I hold the fob right next to the door handle or switch it to my left pocket. I saw another thread that mentioned phones or other items in your pockets can sometimes block the signal, but I’ve tried it with nothing in my pockets except the fob, and it still doesn’t work.

Assuming the car itself still has the OEM battery, and 3 years seems to be the point when it can start having hissy fits, I have a sneaky feeling these fob issues are because of that battery being on its way out and not the fobs.

Thanks, I’ll check the battery and mention it to the dealer. Curious to see what their diagnosis ends up being.
