Ok. Long story short. The thing only goes down half way and gets stuck. I tried screwing on the knob and twisting it off. I tried tapping it with a hammer, I tried yanking it. I tried twisting it with pliers (don't do that... It warps the threads and damages the anodized aluminum finish.

I need help. Next step on my list of unhinged thoughts are blow torch or cutting tool.

I'm so done with German engineering. Why couldn't they just make a car with a removable shift knob like every other manufacturer in existence?

Did you ever get it off of there? I installed an adapter from Raceseng with no issues on my Supra. Just wondering how the rest of your experience went.

Looks to me like the OP got over enthusiastic with the loctite on the set screws and it got between the adaptor and the shifter shaft. In which case some heating with a heat gun after the set scre removal should have sorted the situation. Interested to see how and if he resolved it. Amusing he's blaming the car though.

Yup. Got it off. Needed a slide hammer. Destroyed the finish on the Ashiko shift knob. Complained to Raceseng. They sent me a new adapter and shift knob. New adapter didn't fit either. Neither did the one that one of my club members ordered. Had to bore it out with a drill press and a 9/16 bit. It works fine now. Ugh. It sucked

No loctite was used. This was just from trying to tap it down.

Hit the adaptor with a heat gun and when you get it off try using a strip of 400 wet and dry around the shifter shaft to take a thou or so off the shaft dia to see if it will slide on. You do have the correct adaptor don't you. I think it's the 081201.

Wow - Mine went right on with no issues but it sounds like maybe they had a bad batch of adapters around that time.. Good thing you didn't have to get out the torch!

How do you like the Ashiko - how are the shifts with that weight of a knob?
I got the Traction and I love it.

The ashiko was smooth shifting. Theres so much weight behind it, it almost makes the shifter feel somewhat akin to an arcade game's shifter. Its eliminates a lot of the "linkage" feel. For my replacement knob, i went with the traction as well. Feels a lot better.
