So I am getting a repeat start attempt almost three times a week and when I scanned the car I got these codes. I am almost certain I need to change the starter. So my question is what were you guys quoted for a starter replacement. The car has 31K btw so its crazy that the starter is going bad at this rate!

Can you give some more details on this? Like what exactly is happening or what do you mean by repeated start attempts?

Okay so first, I have never used the auto start button since the car was new. For more details, when i try to turn the car on, I can hear the starter ticking but the car is not starting so I restart it again. Note: i only hear ticking the car is not trying to start and turn off again.

Your car has auto engine start on/off turned on? If so, you can code it out using Bimmercode. That was one of the first mods I did back 5yrs ago on my 2020.

As for cost of replacing the starter, I do not know.. since mine is working perfectly fine.

Edit: That ticking could be coming from a weak battery too.. I'd get that checked under load.

Sounds like if you're getting clicking it could be a battery issue too. Have you checked the battery or replaced it? What year is yours?

If you didn’t code it out or press it everytime you start the car it’s default on. Unless you’re in sport mode all the time.

Its a 2021 supra and yes I had the battery replaced and its at 83%. Maybe you misunderstood me, what I menat was that I have had the auto start stop turned off from like 4k miles and never used it because i know it would abuse the starter.

If he's got the recall done for the DCM you can't code that off anymore unfortunately
Yeah, that is true.

Mine is still running original map.. pre-recall.

I wouldn't have been super concerned about the auto start/stop function. Most of these new starters are made to tolerate a whole lot more starts because of that feature. Not to say I don't basically have my permanently disabled cause I just hate that feature in general.

I'd be surprised if that starter was bad, although, I'm not saying it isn't a possibility.

You mentioning the femto/tune I'll let some of the other guys chime in that may have had a similar issue. Always help to include any/all mods if you're having issues to help find a solution.

You are from Morgantown? I was born in Southern WV.
Anyways back on topic.
The list cost of the starter is about $550. You can probably get it cheaper if you look around some and call a couple dealerships or buy it online. When I lived there I used Sparks Toyota out of Myrtle Beach for parts since it delivered quick and their pricing was always fair. Part number should be 28100-WAA01 but I would confirm that with a parts department. I would guess somewhere between 1.5-2.5 hours of labor is what they would charge to install it. I googled and found them $360-460. Rockauto has a reman for $220 if you wanted to risk that. Hope this helps.

28100-WAA01 is the only number I come up with for the B58, regardless of transmission.

I would recommend avoiding the aftermarket reman in this application, as value proposition isn't really there. Dealer invoice on new OEM is about $335, so anything under $400 would be a pretty good deal.

Yes I am in Morgantown. Thank you for answer all my questions. I would rather change the starter now since I am getting bad starter symptoms rather than towing it to a shop an hour away because I would never trust our pos dealership’s service department. They’ve messed my car up more than I can count so never again.
