I test drove a 21 a while back. Compared to my MT, I do remember the 21 doing some more burbles and stuff. I just got out of the break in period and have been using sport mode and it definitely made a difference but still isn't quite as animated as the 21. I drove a 23 auto real quickly too and it had some more burble than the MT did but it wasn't a huge difference.

I have an unpopular opinion about burbles and backfires that I won't share here given the demographic that will roast me for it, but I think the car sounds just fine the way it is and i say that when most everything i was cross-shopping had a V8. I may imagining things (probably) but a bit more turbo noise seems to be coming through (probably since I can be more aggressive with the throttle finally). Eventually a catted downpipe and a tune will get me the extra sound I'm looking for.
I, too, think that too many pops/bangs/ burbles etc, is unnecessary at best. The gurgles and burbles are mostly ok, but the loud pops are just so obnoxious. And I say that as someone in their twenties!
That being said, I think it’s overlooked that the Supra is just quiet in the cabin. I let my gf drive mine and for a stock car, (in sport) I thought it was pretty loud. I could hear her from 100ft away quite clearly. And this was in a neighborhood using gears 1 and 2, <3k rpm. Im not really sure what people are expecting this thing to sound like from the factory, I think it sounds great.

Thankfully, there are no farts with the 6 speed. I’ll most likely tune 99% of the pops out, once that becomes an option on the newer ecus
that'll be me next weekend. not exaggerating, i'm more excited about removing the pops than i was when disabling ASD

2023 Auto MT, sounds “lively” even with stock exhaust. Opinions are going to vary i think tho.

I thought the factory setup sounded okay, until I got used to it with the catless downpipe. Then when I put the original pipe back on to trade it in, I damn near thought my ears were full of water it was so stinking quiet.

Get a performance downpipe, catted or catless, it'll REALLY pump up the jamz!

Maybe that's whats going on with me. I'm so used to the catless DP and the AWE and now the Tomei that when I picked up Speed Industry's manual to install the HKS BOV kit I'm like is this thing even on? What are people talking about sounds good? OP is right this is like dead silent even in sport mode. I guess I'm sooooo use to my loud ass car its quieter than what I was expecting. BUT even in sport I couldn't hear any pops or gurgles or anything.

I turn the pops down, I just like the burbles and gurgles and that sound.

I have both a 2020 launch edition and a 2023 a91 mt

From my experience, when I bought the 2020 brand new, it had excessively loud burbles.. I mean for a factory car it was loud..

The 2023 a91 mt is quiet as hell. I bought mine used with 1800 miles, now that it has 5000+ the exhaust note and burbles have improved but still much quieter than my 2020.

I’m at 2500 miles now and I feel like my MT has gotten louder. There are some new burbles happening at 3500rpm versus earlier it was only 5-6k and around 2000 rpm. I have ASD off and the interior is still incredibly quiet. More tire noise than anything else. Behind the car it is very loud for a bone stock car in my opinion. If you downshift near redline the gunfire is unreal.

Is the downpipe "too loud"? I gather it helps the turbo spool faster and I'm all about nice sound but I don't want excessive noise on the freeway (driving a long distance) as it will drive my crazy.

I have some good videos of stock exhaust when my a91 mt was brand new granted it’s much louder revving with the clutch depressed…, but easy way to fix it, thjs is my exhaust setup and it sounds nutty, too loud for me and still retains a catted dp and no Cel or tuning.

The fact that we have literal cliques forming around the following groups of people is so interesting. Honestly, anything but a clean exhaust note just feels so weird unless you have the performance to back up the noises, because at this point when hot hatches are doing this crap, it just completely waters down the experience. Of course, when you're talking about some insane cars like 800+ hp GTRs, and twin turbo'd R8/Hurracans, that's a totally difference world.

  1. Pops & bangs (sport mode) good, gurgles and burbles good.
  2. Pops & bangs (sport mode) bad, gurgles and burbles good.
  3. All noises bad, clean exhaust best.
