Hey

I'm looking to daily my car in the winter and planning on installing winter tire set on stock rims. Just wondering if anyone else is doing the same and what size of tires they're running.

I'm planning on going with either 255/35/19 all around or 245/40/19(Front) and 265/40/19(rear).

The size mentioned above is what I'm considering but not sure what'll be ideal. Please let me know what you guys are running and your thoughts on the above sizes.

Thanks

I just ordered the Alpin pa4’s 255/35 and 265/35 for the rear. I copied someone elses combo here. The only thing I could say would be that for a larger tire aspect ratio, at stock ride height it may affect handling a bit. To what degree idk, but that’s what someone else mentioned to me

Thanks for the response. I think square setup is better for traction in winter that's why I was considering 255/35/19 all around but not sure if that's gonna fit the rear wheels.

Can you confirm if 265/40/19 work on the rear? It's hard to find 265/35/19 around me.

I'm running 245/40-18" (Conti Viking 7) on all four corners, this setup works great for me
I was actually thinking of going for wider in the rear but given how soft winter tires are the car goes through a set of rears very quickly, I had to replace the rears this year after just 2 winters as they were down to 1,5mm thread..
going for same dim on all four gives me the possibility of swapping rear to front if need be next season
just my 5 cent of "wisdom" ;)

You make a good point, this is why I went slightly wider in the rear but narrower than stock bc I believe narrower tires cut through fresh snow better? Not sure. What do you guys think?

The width should be fine; changing the aspect ratio is something I'd rather have someone else chime in on. You can always call tire rack, they have experts that can easily answer questions there, maybe just not for performance oriented things but you never know. Is there a reason you don't have access to certain sizes of the tire you want?

There's a shotage and the tire supply is low. It's extremely hard to find the right set of tires in my city unfortunately. I've checked all big store and small ones.

narrow is better on snow definitely, if look at WRC cars when they are on the winter stages they look like they are running on motorcycle tires ;)

So is there a consensus on what size tire is probably best to run on the stock wheels for winter? I'm looking at getting winter tires and not sure what to go with.

I had planned on running 235/40R19 and 255/40R19 Michelin CrossClimate2 tires on stock rims for the winter, but decided to go with a square all aftermarket setup instead (245/45R18).

I decided to use my stock 18" rims with winter tires but I stayed with factory size. Front: 255/40R18 Hankook Winter i*cept evo3 W330 and rear: 275/40R18 Hankook Winter i*cept evo3 W330. This Hankook model has a superb price to performance ratio, so I bought it. Car will be driven during the winter mostly within city area, no much snow expected.
