Until last month I lived in New York and so I’d naturally stopped by Toyota of Manhattan to see if they had any Supras allocated. They said they had a waitlist, and so I signed up for it, but they couldn’t tell me the pricing at that time. When the LEs came in, the owner of that location picked them up and then they reached out to those of us on the waitlist to try and sell it to us. Their asking price? $99,999.

I ended up picking up an LE out of state back in July and got off of Toyota of Manhattan’s waitlist, but they still text me from time to time for some reason. They just texted me again this morning and so I responded just out of curiosity to see if they’re still trying to get $100k for their LE (it’s red and is #629/1,500). Here’s how the conversation went:

Funny, they wouldn't even let me know what the price was with the mark up until I came in. After I told them that I wasn't interested in discussing any car that had mark up they offered to get me a premium one from jersey if I left a non refundable deposit.. (that's before I ever sat or drove the Supra). So I went to jersey and picked one up with no mark up.. idiots.

I think that half the reason this car will do poorly in terms of sales is because of the JDM purists that hate Bimmers. The other half will be because of Toyota dealerships. Hopefully this will be a lesson to Toyota (but it probably won’t be...).

Dumbest thing was they had a tech lined up to show me the car. He wasn’t Akon Snow and knew nothing. I used the time to ask them what they can and cannot do at this time. If you put money on almost nothing, you would be a winner. He looked defeated when I explained what the 40k service entailed. I give them points for trying, but they just don’t have the tools and experience yet to give the level of service they were expecting for this master tech complimentary hands on. I don’t blame the tech at all on this.

I feel like all of them are liars and assholes.

Do you guys confronted them with that bullshit they were talking? I'd love to know how they reacted.

A salesman kept telling me the car was limited.

I didn't even mean to react. I kind of lashed out and said the car wasn't limited.
He said "So you did your homework."
