~ Out of curiosity… what made you opt to reduce the size of the factory wheels from 19’s to 18’s? Kind of seems like a downgrade to me to drop to 18” wheels. I know when I use to autocross… I would have a secondary set of smaller rims and sticky tires I would swap just for auto crossing or track use. Interested to hear why. Cheers!

Here are my personal reasons:
  1. Saved total unsprung weight
    1. Every 10lbs of unsprung weight is calculated to shave .10 off your quarter mile.
    2. Fuel mileage is increased even at the same rotational diameter simply because the weight is lower (lower rotational inertia)
  2. Cheaper tires
    1. 18" tires are signifacantly cheaper than their 19" counter part
      1. 1743896595250-1p.jpg
  3. Square setup means easily rotatable tires

Of course, there are negatives as well
  1. Rim warranty from factory doesn't apply if you hit a nasty pothole
    1. This applies to switching to any rim other than OEM
  2. Limited to manufacturer warranty
    1. Apex may or may not be a shitty company
  3. Might not look as good to certain audiences
    1. I've always had an anti-stance, function over form perspective but not everyone agrees.

Probably not much more, I'm on the edge of what the trans can handle already.
Just read through your build thread. It all makes sense now, glad your engine still looks pristine :)

I’ve heard of some people trying to run G82/80 transmission on these cars. But trouble getting the tcu to run with the car I heard was an issue if I remember. Can maybe find a used one for sale or maybe one from a crashed car?

I heard it also doesn't shift as fast. If I do end up needing a trans I will just send it to ATS for a stage 1 most likely.

Oh interesting. I’ve heard good things about Brian from ATS.

Great explanation! Car looks fantastic btw. I really hope you track her someday ?. Price and ability to rotate was my main concerns for tracking. My non track months, I go back to the OEM wheels. They look good powder coated (or Hyperdiped in my case) compared to the fugly chrome they came with back in 2022, imo. But when driving in town on the 19s, I can’t get that hard OEM rubber to wear down ?. Someday I’ll be able to shop for better grocery getting grip.

What do you think you'll replace the OEM's with?
