So basically some of yall on here know a hell of a lot more than I do so im asking for your advice. Right now I have a stock set of wheel with oem tires. I also have a oem set of rear wheels with semi slicks on (285/35/19) Bridgestone potenza RE-71 R. My question is when summer comes around should I run the stock (255) front wheels on the front and the 285s in the rear or should I run the oem (275) rear wheels in the front and run the 285s in the rear? Will there be better handling with wider tires in the front? Do I need to take my 13mm spacer off in the front to fit the (275)? Thanks in advanced.

So I’m kinda like you I’m trying to absorb some of the knowledge that others have on this forum. I am on stock wheels and tires. Last night I installed spacers 12mm front and 15mm rear. In order to go with any wider tires the spacers would have to come off unless you change wheels and offset. And the whole offset thing is where I start to get lost.

You will have better front grip (less understeer) with the wider tires up front - at the expense of increase of rolling resistance which could decrease your gas mileage.

In a perfect world you would have a square set up (same sizes/tires on front/back) which would remove any understeer/oversteer properties that are coming from the tires.

Most street cars are dialed in from the factory for understeer at the limit as it is safer than oversteer.

This guide might help you, although it pertains to aftermarket wheels:

OEM wheels on 3.0 Supras are 9" wide in the front, and 10" wide in the rear. The factory 10" wheel won't fit in the front wheel wells. So if you're using OEM wheels you're limited to 9" wide wheels.

I've put 265s on 9" wheels with my Cayman. It works, but they "balloon" a bit. I don't think you'd want to run a 275 on a 9" wheel, it's just not wide enough for proper support.

I would go with 255 or 265 tires in the front on your OEM wheels.

Good luck 👍

If you can, put your 275 up front.

After you mount the wheel, perform a lock to lock test of the steering wheel and make sure nothing is rubbing, then take it for a ride and try to perform some figure 8s in a parking lot and see if you have any rubbing.

Okay, I'm really confused here. OEM real wheels won't fit in the front wheel wells because of their offset.

275/35R18 wheels will fit up front on aftermarket wheels with the proper offset.

The maximum tire width you should use on a 9" wheel is 265.

285s will fit on the factory rear wheel in the rear wheel wells no problem.

Just to give you a visual idea. Here's my current setup with OEM wheels (9F/10R).

265/35 front on 10mm spacers and 285/35 rear on 13mm spacers. Lowered on Eibach Euro/Z4 spec .8in/20mm drop.
