2026 MT with 1200 miles.
I just noticed this annoying “woodpecker” noise during idle. After testing some more today, I realized the noise is most consistent after cold start once the cats warm up but car is still not at operating temp. Increasing RMPs even a tiny amount causes it to go away but then come right back. When the engine does reach proper operating temp, it seems the RPMs go down just a little bit and ultimately makes the noise go away, however I can get it to come back easily by adding back just that slight bit of RPMs. The pitch and frequency of the noise is pretty much always the same but it's also only audible for very small RPM range. The noise generally sounds like it's inside the dash but if I had to guess, it's more likely something happening in the engine bay.
I’ve removed every loose item from the interior of the car, I've confirmed that A/C on or off has no effect, I've applied pressure to all the interior components that could be a culprit, I've removed the engine cover, and also attempted to hold down different things under the hood.
I've tried to listen carefully on the engine bay and I think I can faintly hear a similar sound on the drivers side area of the engine (maybe closer to the firewall) but it's hard to tell with all the other noises. I listened to the fuel rail area as well, but that mostly sounded like the typical higher pitch ticking noises, not that 'woodpecker' noise that I'm dealing with.
Have any of you experienced this? I tried to search a decent bit but haven't found anything that matches. Let me know if I can provide any other info.
Thanks.
