An intake could be considered a claim denying mod since it alters the air coming in and so on. Not everyone will, but some. I do use heavier oil because it's what the pukes at EPA want for mileage ratings, rather than engine protection.
I think an intake is an undetectable mod and can't really cause any issues as long as its removed. Are you not worried about warranty with non-recommended oil?

True, if you can remove it. If it breaks down on the road and you're getting towed to the dealer, you won't have time to remove it lol.
Not worried one bit. The manual says a 30 weight can be used "if a 20 weight isn't available" lol. It wasn't available ;)
And a 30 weight will sheer to a 20 weight over time before it'll get low. And on top of that, no dealer I've ever heard of has taken samples to make sure the oil was within spec for a warranty claim.

You mean 0-30 instead of 0-20 right? Did you do a full oil change or just add a quart of 30

Unfortunately you are wrong, as I had a hard break in and i am having the oil consumption issues.
Wrong in what way? I take it you're the one person from that poll that broke it in hard and is showing consumption issues? That doesn't change the fact that the overwhelming majority of those with consumption issues babied the car during break-in, which is known to cause this problem (not necessarily on this motor, I'm just speaking generally).

As you said, you drive the car extremely hard every time you start it up, yours might just be normal blowby from that driving style. It fits within BMW's definition of "normal", and these cars are known to throw a lot of oil into the intake tract from the crankcase vent. It'll be nice when someone figures out a catch-can/AOS system that actually works.

There's also the shitty 0W20 the manufacturer recommends. That MUST be an EPA-related decision, I've never heard of a high horsepower turbo motor using 0W20. Usually it's 30 at a minimum, 40 nominal. I would never feel comfortable filling up this car with a 20 weight oil.

I already have horrid fuel economy with this car, seeing 230 miles till empty on a full tank. Will this change of oil make it worse? I am still worried about warranty im a bit of a warranty freak lol,

Fuel economy is done with your right foot lol! I personally don't worry about it. I bought the car to have fun with, otherwise I'd have bought something else. I think the average MPG I'm getting is around 18 according to the dash. But yeah, a heavier oil will impact fuel economy, that's why the EPA want that piss water in there to begin with. To improve fuel economy and emissions and all that crap.

I don't remember if i did the poll to be honest lol. I don't drive hard until its warmed up, but everytime i drive it is driven hard. Maybe I will go up to 0-30 to be safe with my next oil change.

I have a 2020 model and the light came on at about 18000KM (11000Miles). Just added a quart of GR oil and it's been fine so far...I don't track the car. I just drive it to work daily in traffic and occasionally rip it on the highway. I've been reading and some of you are saying 0w is too thin for this car. What other oil do you guys recommend? I live on the west side Canada so the temperature is lower than those in the states. Maybe the 0w oil is better in this type of climate?

No problem at all! I will say, if you're worried about warranty, remove the intake. See how far your car will take you until the next oil fill message. But if you want some added security you could stop by a dealer and get it documented so they know what's up.

Not so much the 0W- but rather the 20. The 0W is for winter weather cold starts etc. If you stay above -30 Fahrenheit or so you can use a 5W. Mine gets stored in the winter so I run a 5W-30. In your case if you run it in the winter, I'd use a 0W-30.

I was about to get all my mods uninstalled and take it in to the dealer... I guess ill wait until i see if the car has any actual problems or keeps consuming oil at this rate forever. I refuse to use heavier oil like some recommend because i'd prefer to keep my warranty intact. Hence why my only real mods are intake and exhaust.
You will not void your warranty! Did you read the GR Supra owners manual? Toyota is approving a heavier weight oil as a safe alternative. See manual excerpt below. Also as you can see from the graph the 0w-20 is better for below zero temperatures but falls short in the hotter climates.

Let’s be honest these cars will rarely see below zero use, most of the driving will be during warmer weather days. Be informed my friend and make your decisions based on facts and not internet hearsay.

Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w30 (non L spec) is impossible to find. I had to go with 5w40 for this reason. Pennzoil Platinum Euro L 5w30 (LL04) is technically the wrong spec for a US gasoline BMW engine. I'm sure you can run it...but the non L spec (LL01) is the correct spec to get for our cars. I'm fine with 5w40 anyway as it gets extremely hot in the summers here and would hold up better.

That is what I found out too. Something about the sulfur in our gas compared to the EU. I ended up using Redline 5w-30 which is LL01 and exceeds every other criteria
