The tuner tried to flash my tunable 2020 Supra and got the following error:

"This maps software is different from software on the DME currently. You can force the flash. Unless you're certain of the compatibility with your DME DO NOT force flash."

This error occurred with the OTS map, and the tuner tried a custom map with the same error.

Any idea what this means? I bought the BootMod3 license today and can't use it on my car.

Did you physically check the date on your ECU? I know the MYs on European cars is different.

Yup, it's May 2019. It's running on the oldest version.

have you had it at the dealer recently for service or software updates, it could need a bench unlock. even on 19/20 cars if they were updated they need to be bench unlocked

I had my service done on the car before the recall update was issued. So I doubt that this could be the issue.

Doesn't matter, the technician will plug their computer into the OBDII port even during the complimentary toyota care service and whatever updates are available will be loaded onto your car. You have to tell them yourself that you don't want your DME touched. You may have to pony up the cash for a bench unlock to be safe.

The recall isn't the only update that the dealer can do/has done. Any service will likely software lock the ECU--requiring a bench unlock.

Thanks for the replies. I will get in touch with my tuner and let them know of the information.

Just check to see if your locked or not. I know MHD had a quick check.
The recall flash takes 45 minutes. So if the dealer was physically working on the car at some point for 45+ minutes then check service records to see what was done.

The tuner managed to check the history on the ECU. It is on version 100 (1.00?) Which is the original version. They said no updates were done when the vehicle went in for its first service.

The tuner has been in contact with bootmod3. Tuner will backup the ECU and then attempt to flash the car again.

You need to find something like this picture. The BTLD line and down should have 1s as shown. If those are replaced with 2’s, you’re locked.

Same thing happened to me when I bought my 2020 Supra on November. The DME date was 2019, however; when the car was traded back to the dealership, they went along with the recall. Even tho the DME date was before June 2020 it was still locked. Found out the hard what when I used BM3 and I forced the tune which caused my Supra to get bricked. Later was given a reflash from bm3 to unbrick the car and took it to the tuner to bench unlock it right away as well as went with ecutek instead of bm3 and mhd.

Thanks for the information! Sounds like exactly the issue I am having with my car.

Question, not sure if you can help but if the tuner forces the flash, and the ECU bricks, is the tuner able to reflash? Or can only BM3 do it?

Appreciate the help.
