Had PhD Racing install my new bucket seat, harness bar, and harness along with SPL caster bushing and SPL rear toe links with lockouts.

WOW what a big difference. This car feels CONNECTED to the road now. Can’t wait to track it in a couple months.

Looks great man. I love that seat/harness combo, same one in my friend’s E46. Not that you don’t plan on doing this but I was told that having a harness in without a full rollcage can be unsafe? Can someone clarify exactly why if so?

I may be wrong but I used to be on the track a decent amount and my understanding was the inverse - having a full cage without a full harness is quite dangerous, because a car with a full cage is designed to be used by a driver with a full 6-point and a helmet. It's not too hard to hit your head on a bar, especially because the high forces in an accident can extend your spine a lot more than you would imagine - you can go a lot further than you are able to stretch yourself in the car to check. A roll cage bar to the head is not something you're gonna come back from.

What you may be thinking of, maybe, is that mounting a harness to anything that is not a bar or cage is generally a really bad idea - especially mounting to the floor.

Looking at the exact same setup. Can I ask what your waist, weight and height is? Is that a normal/medium size Evo QRT?

I believe @fatal-element has it right in his response. Full roll cage without harness and helmet is bad. Harness and bar are fine as along as the bar is mounted securely and in a location.

This is correct to my knowledge as well. From what I know, the harness bar and set up I have is safe and won’t have any adverse affects during a crash. I do recommend getting HANS device for added safety if you’re tracking it. I’ll be getting one shortly.

It’s a great set up. I have the regular/normal EVO QRT. Nice and snug, not uncomfortable. I am 5’8”, wear 32” waist pants, and weigh 165lbs (I think lol, haven’t checked in a while).

Great, thanks for the info! What base and side plates are you using?

Think of safety as a system, not pieces.

Harness and HANS

Or

OEM belt and airbag

Think about how your head and torso moves in an impact. If you’re rocking a cage, harness and HANS unless you want to bang your head on a metal bar.

Even without a cage, harness should be paired with HANS unless you like whiplash.

IMHO

Ordered BMW oil and MANN filter .. but I’m thinking with only 1K miles on the oil and filter from the entire season last year, that filter on my car is still good..
