I'm newly getting into F1 (have watched all of the DTS seasons except haven't finished the last one) but Ricardo is my favorite from the show and it hurts to see McLaren doing so poorly in race 1.
Clearly there an issue with RB engines, though it seems to be a low fuel level issue from what I've seen this AM. MB is also doing poorly with their PU. It is good to see another competitive team though with Ferrari finishing strong.
Remember that DTS plays up the drama and rivalries for entertainment value, so take it with a grain of salt.

RB will be fine; like dvd said, it's a teething issue that will probably be a quick fix. Doubt they will have more DNFs on account of this. Mercedes' problems are much bigger and broader--that's not a quick fix.

Oh sure for all of that. RB from what I saw was just a low fuel level issue which apparently all the other constructors tested and they did not...seems like it can be remedied.
As for Ricardo, I just liked his personality on the show, really no vested interest in any team, just seems like a fun guy.

Red Bull had a fuel pump issue brought about from the increased ethanol content in the fuel eating away at the resin housing the fuel pump electronics.

It's a spec part so either they need to keep inspecting every race this year, the supplier needs to change the resin formula, or the FIA needs to allow the teams to install so protection or come up with their own fuel pump electronics housing.

Of course the other question is whether or not a team should be billed for damage to the power unit brought about by a failure of the spec part (especially if it's inspected before hand).

Do teams get an engine penalty if they have to change engines due to these types of failures? I don't know if there is any precedent for it at the current moment.

Pretty sure they already determined the spec part wasn’t what failed.

Are they thinking that this contributed to Gasly’s late race BBQ?

I'm just going off of what Craig Scarborough said in a conversation with Peter Windsor in this video:

Conversation starts at the 10:00 minute mark.
I haven't been able to find anything that says otherwise.

I am reading that RB (unsurprisingly) already has the fuel issue fixed.

Looks like Seb is probably out for the Saudi GP too :(

Looks like Mick is missing tomorrow's race.
He's going to focus on Melbourne instead.
Probably for the best. I imagine he's pretty banged up after all of that.

Watching Mick hit the wall live my jaw dropped. Crazy how fast that snapped out from under him. Ocon almost did the same at the same spot. Glad Mick is ok.

Im a huge RedBull hater, but I really like Perez, so I was glad he got his first pole.

glad HAAS got in Q3 again. Love seeing them and Alfa running up there in Q3.

crazy how far off Merc engines are. Idk if they can keep using that ”drag” excuse. E10 seemed to have really affected them.

and of course… wow Hamilton…. I think this shows that when you don’t have confidence in your car you’re just off. Hoping he has a decent come back.

I see everyone talking about “finally some competition“ but it’s still a 2 horse race, just a different horse running up front. Hope Carlos can pull it off tomorrow.

It just shows you need the whole package. Team, driver, and car, to work well together. Some drivers can squeeze out an extra tenth or two if the car is under performing, and others need an over performing car to make up for their own lack of speed. Some drivers are great at developing a car, but can't quite extract it on track, which where the team part comes in with development. Mercedes is a power house and they will be back at the front, sooner than we think. And Ferrari's weakness since Schumacher left, has been developing the car. Which is a strength of Sainz. But he's not quite there (yet) to extract the performance of the car Leclerc is capable of. So together if Sainz develops, and Charles keeps Red Bull at bay until Mercedes closes the gap, they might have a shot. The unknown is Red Bull. Obviously they have the drivers, but their car is just behind ever so slightly. Their development pace is inconsistent. But my bet is before the summer break, it will be a 3 horse race.
