Hi
Has anyone done a swap changing the 2 port head into a 6 port and if it is possible, what kind of modifications should be done as i heard from a lot of people that the timing chain needs to be modified.
If someone has done this swap it would really be helpful if he can provide more info on the swap.

thanks

Its not the same the 6 port is able to generate more max power than the 2 port

I hear some people in the drag racing community want to do or have done this conversion.

But I don't think it's necessary unless you're trying to achieve a ridiculous amount of power.

Lots of the drag cars have done the conversion. This is a hot topic. The Adonis car, Norris's cars, one of the PPE cars I think have done it. The better top end is worth it if you're competing. If you're at or around the 1000hp mark, it's absolutely worth the investment.

Talking to a few folks, the 6 port conversion costs around 4k (assuming you're getting the head build), and that obviously doesn't include the turbo. I'm pretty sure that no one that's done the conversion is running a stock frame or bottom mount turbo, because it's a high horsepower application.

Norris is my tuner I will ask him. I knew it was possible and agree. For 4k there are better ways to add power. Correct, unless you are at 1000hp- already spent 20k- and are looking for another .2 secs I do not know why anyone would bother?

That's exactly it. You're pushing every last drop out at this point. Likely even gone 3.2L stroker.

Unless you are really planning to push the car, the 2 port head will be fine. There are stock,(completely untouched) 2 port motors in the 8s. However they wont live there regularly they can achieve it. I believe the 6 port head will help with cylinder pressure issues in the long run but once again not needed if your not on kill.

So the OP is asking if anyone has done this conversion and any advice on the process. It doesn't matter if you think the 2-port is fine and its a waste to convert. Stick to the thread topic and if you don't have advice, just move on please. Why do people choose burger king over mcdonalds...because they want it.

Wish I could be of move help OP, good luck.

You got it, boss! Anything you say, I wouldn't want an internet demerit or anything.

Trolls will be trolls I guess.
I'm just fucking around, obviously.

The fact is, there have been a small handful of folks that have done this conversion. Some of them think it's worth it, and some of them don't. All of them are extremely high HP applications, 900-1100+hp and you know their names.

The gains from the 6 port come from the additional flow at the very top end of the curve. 5800-6200rpm I wanna say, but I don't remember exactly what the powerbands look like. If you're building the motor it might make sense depending on what your goals are.

A common misconception is that the difference in HP from the 2020 -> 2021+ are from the head, but that's not really true. The gains come from the slightly spicier tune.

I think those saying, 'don't bother' are generally correct. OP, if you're looking to set records and get into the deep 8s, this is absolutely something you want to consider. If not, you might want to look for another way to gain power. What are your current mods?
