I may be in the minority. But I don't get the MT hype.

I just finished 6.5 years with a MT. Yes, it does add a bit of fun to choose when to up shift or down shift into the upcoming corner. Fun to have the connection between the scream of the engine and your foot. Dropping a gear to pass an a** hole in the passing lane is positively cathartic.

But isn't that all achievable with the paddle shifters? I understand you can't just throw it from 6 to 2. The paddles are sequential. But that's race car right? All race cars have sequential gear boxes.

You guys ever drive an MT in heavy traffic? Day after day after day? And with these more powerful engines you end up with heavier and heaver clutches. OK for the race track. But for a daily it just gets old.

Finally, isn't this JZA80 tranny pretty hot? What will you do when MT comes up with slower 0-60 times than the AT? And this is not uncommon. Noise regulations, fuel consumption, and other design goals lead mfgs to choose unfavorable lower gear ratios in MTs.
I totally get where you are coming from. I was a manual guy for years before I bought my auto bmw 340i. The paddles were only fun for the first few months. It gets boring after a bit and leaves you wanting more. I have no complaints for it being an automatic. Its a great transmission. But I jist like a more engaging drive and I like to feel more in control. This is why I’m between the manual supra or the Nissan Z. Because the auto leaves me wanting more. At the end of the day, Its different strokes for different folks and there is no answer this boils down to. Just buy what you enjoy, try to experience everything, be open minded. Life is too short to not do what you like.

????????

of course you can use it while you're moving, it will work the same as the automatic model or any other car. Why would they make it work only when stationary for the MT model, can you even call it a brake at that point lol or just a park lock?
Thanks for pointing this out, Wasn’t aware you could. I’ll try it but my point for the lack of control still stands. The electronic ones go either 0% or a 100%. There is no in between for them unless your pads are busted.

People will always find faults. If it has a traditional ebrake they would have complained about power. Then color options etc. Can't please everyone.

We live in the iPhone generation where any new feature justifies upgrading with every new model. Th manufactures love it.

I had the same issue with my dealership. They wouldn't take a deposit but said that I was the first one to inquire about one. So, in theory I should be first on the list if they are allocated an A91 edition.

He also said it will probably be marked up somewhere between 5-10k like the CF edition that was still sitting on the showroom floor about 20 ft from me when I was there.
Same. Went to the same dealer I bought my 21. They said that they wouldn't take a deposit until they had released the final pricing and allocation count. I'm first on the list for them for a blue 3.0 prem with the a manual though... for whatever that is worth.

It sounds like you really need to go Porsche if you dont go with the manual Supra. Based on how the interiors and paint have aged on GTR and 350/370z cars I don't think I could stand buying a Nissan product.

Porsche is something that I’ve considered for a while and its actually the one I’d be buying if it made more sense financially. Unfortunately the 911 has to wait. I do believe that Nissan is trying to turn their reputation around to what they used to be before and the new Z’s interior looks good. Its no BMW interior I’d agree, but if the manual on the supra is a half assed attempt, Z is what I’d be considering. Especially at the price point it comes at. The Z also looks much mature IMO, not that the supra looks bad. Just two different exterior design languages.

Hellooooo mama
I was looking at the blue Supras offered since release. The latest is really nice and sort of lands in between Downshift and Refraction. I still like Downshift best, though

This new blue is the exact blue I want. I do like downshift (kind of like the old baltic blue), but something that resembles RSP is up my alley! Cant wait to order my 3.0 Premium Manual with the new blue

Same. For me Downshift was a bit too dark and Refraction too light and smurf'ish. Stratoshere is just right; I dig the blue on the new Z as well.

It will go well with my Laguna Blue Evo:

I may be wrong here but isnt the JZA80 a designation for the mkIV supras? the A80 being the generation and the JZ being the engine. If you google the JZA80 toyota transmission that is not anything that I am seeing.

Correct. The transmission is V160/1

Hah, you getting a new one, then? I've got a call in with my salesperson - working on getting a blue manual 3.0 premium as soon as they land... hopefully AFTER some reviews are out.

Yes, that's the current plan. A buddy of mine is hooking me up with an out of state dealer friend for an MSRP deal but it's not 100% confirmed yet. I will absolutely buy one at MSRP and I don't need to be at the front of the line. Just not going to pay any mark up.

Which dealer do you work with? I don't have any association with any of the local dealers.
