Dealers that are (at least verbally) promising no markups and no “dealer add-ons” are few and far between.

My hope is that the dealer won’t renege on this, and I’ll keep my place in line when allocations arrive. If things don’t go to plan, the deposit is refundable. Worth a shot IMO.

For anyone in the Bay Area that’s interested - this was One Toyota in Oakland. They only take deposits in person.
- My go to was Toyota Walnut Creek, but they let me know that they’ll be adding a “$20,000 wrap” to the first batch of MT supras that they receive. Buyer beware, I guess.
yoo I actually called Toyota WC and sales manager told me they do MSRP 500 fully refundable for the manual Supra so I did it lol Funny thing you mention the wrap cause the guy definitely mentioned that but for the next supra that comes in lol That's crazy tho I worked with the service manager prior to him being at One Toyota

Awesome, I’m glad it worked out!

My experience with Toyota WC has been mixed.
- Smooth and no BS when I put down a deposit for the GR Corolla.
- Rather rude and sneaking in a $20k markup claiming it’s an add-on for the Supra

I’d recommend putting down a deposit at One Toyota as well if you can - just in case they try to pull the wrap weirdness on you down the line!

yeah that's ridiculous but sweeeet, that car is gonna be fun man!
One Toyota would've been my next option, just found one that sounded promising and closer. I meaann I would but I don't wanna put down 2 deposits for the same car even though they're both refundable, maybe at that point it's best to wait if it's not meant to be :')

Just my opinion, but I feel like the GR Supra in Stratosphere Blue(Portimao Blue) looks cooler than the colors for the limited edition A91 MT, it even looks kinda similar to the rare and highly sought after RSP on the MK4 Supra.

Also, glad to see some similarity in the wheel designs of Toyota's GR cars, make them more recognisable as the cars of Toyota's performance sub-brand.

I did the comparison, RSP is still darker, this is more like the Lexus Blue

I just chatted with my dealer friend. There is no custom ordering; you can specify your preference but at the end of the day dealers get what they get.
That's Toyota. If they have a sold order for a specific configuration, they will get first dibs on that configuration when it comes available.

Now, the bigger problem we have in the southeast is that dealers cannot get cars directly from Toyota. They get their cars from Toyota Southeast Distributors, who call the shots. They can make certain options unavailable (like red interiors last year, and certain colors), charge whatever they want for options (like charging 3x what every other region pays for the carpeted trunk mat), and dictate what options every car has.

So, every car will have ToyoCare Platinum, and every other stupid option you would never want. They also remove the really nice Supra-branded envelope for the books, and replace it with a really crappy plastic one.

You can see the pricing differences when building a car on Toyota's website. Put in your zip, and see what things cost... and then change your zip to one from the northeast, etc., and see what happens.

So really no changes in infotainment at least?
I was expecting to finally get iDrive 7, and Android Auto along with it, but nothing about that yet, so I doubt it's happening.

Interestingly, though, the press release specifically calls this out:
  • New premium 12-speaker JBL Audio system standard on all 3.0 Premium and A91-MT models
So... I wonder if they've changed anything. I sure hope it sounds better! It would be nice to get something that sounds on-par with the BMW equivalent, at least.

I saw the note for the new JBL speakers as well. It's probably just updated speaker drivers and/or amp. upgrade.

Looking at the press release photos, the image shown on the infotainment is definitely still the same iDrive system which does NOT support Android Auto.

Agreed about the iDrive system, which is a shame.

I would love it if they upgraded the amp. The woofers would be good enough for most people, if they just had a bit more power...

If I was buying I’d definitely be getting the Stratosphere blue, going to be gorgeous. I love my Refraction though.

Interesting - thanks for the insight. I'm chatting with a dealer in WI of all places, but they alluded to potential blockers with an out of state deal. Not sure if it's a Toyota thing or a state/dmv thing at this point. So... Not totally in the clear but I am first 'on the list' if it can work. Worst case I have to pay WI and NC sales tax, but that defeats the MSRP-only strategy...
