i know its a little bit crazy idea, do you think that taking the oem engine cover off will benefit in relesing heat from the engine and engine compartment?
anyone ever tried it?

Yes it actually does affect IAT Temps, I notice IATS about 2-4 degrees lower on any given day in my experience with the cover off. This is just experimenting with it a couple times.

I can echo the others. I took mine to an autocross event yesterday and did a few runs with it on vs off. I noticed IAT and oil Temps were a couple degrees cooler. But yes the ticking is LOUD. Reminded me of my ND2.

Any benefits of cutting cover over the manifold? Keep cooler and ticking quiet?

i have been driving without the cover for more than a week
yes, there is more noise and ticking sound but not so bad
i think i see a little bit cooler temps in my IAT according to the gauge on the JB4

An engineer once told me that the reason the engine covers all became this cheap plastic looking ornament is because in the event of a fire, it’s designed to melt over the engine and suppress the fire. They use to be insulation panels attached to the underside of the hood (like the MKIV’s), but now they are the engine covers. Someone correct if this is not true.

I can’t see that as legit

as modern engines have more and more plastic bits and wires I believe covers to be for Beauty and noise insulation

plastic will catch fire and burn. Will NOT melt and put a fire out

I don’t think it puts out the fire, I think it manages it better to eventually put it out. Basically buying you time. Again, this is what an engineer told me….not official statement from Toyota.
