This is my first sports car, coming from a 2022 civic sport touring hatchback. ANY tips on handling and owning a sports car is appreciated!

I just took it home today, the finance manager spent 30 min trying to convince me to buy extended warranty. I declined on all his offers, not sure if that was the right move or not. Car drives great and its actually way too easy to speed in this car.... Im financing it for 23k and hopefully will pay it off by next year. I make around 5k a month give or take so its not impossible...

I am just making this post because I am having severe imposter syndrome right now. I don't feel like I deserve to have this car, and my age adds pressure to it. I've been obsessing over this thing since 2019 and i've always told myself to keep pushing and work harder JUST to be in this car someday. Well, im here now with it..and I feel pretty depressed ngl lol. I thought I would feel happier but I just feel alone..? I'm sure as time passes by ill feel the love setting in but earlier I felt like i wanted to cry because I just feel guilty bro, like what the hell?

EDIT: Each person's advice and stories shared have been a tremendous help on my thoughts... I'm grateful to be a part of the car community. Better yet the Supra community. Y'all really put my head in the right place. Cheers everyone!

Extended warranties typical are not a good investment. Especially when a new Supra has a factory warranty for 3 years or 36,000 miles.

Sadly many finance the extended warranty when purchasing new… who needs a double warranty?!?

One’s paying for something you don’t need for 3 years and your paying interest on something you can’t make use of for 3 years or 36k?!?

Dealer upsells when in the finance office are huge profit makers for the dealer. Decline decline decline.

If your buying a used Supra with nearly 36,000 miles… perhaps an extended warranty may be of value.

Hi OP, I give you permission to both enjoy your new car, and be your age and feel proud of the fact you made it happen. My dad worked very hard his whole life and never got to enjoy what I have today. He would go nuts if he were still alive knowing that I bought something like this, but I think a small part of him would be impressed. Hopefully that gives you some perspective and let's you enjoy what you have a bit more. ;)

Hey man, you got it, now enjoy it. As someone who suffers from severe imposter syndrome, try not to dwell on yr thoughts. Easier said than done, I know. My sadness stems from dwelling on my work and what others may think of me. I feel like I don't deserve to be where I am sometimes. Don't worry about the what if, and I don't deserve this, or I'm not good enough feelings. Remember that what you feel exists most in yr head than anywhere else. I still have my imposter syndrome creep up a lot and get sad about things. Try to ignore the thoughts and focus on something positive when it rears its ugly head. I always feel the same whenever I get a new car as well. When I was young I had evos, an s2k etc. I felt I didn't deserve them at the time. Guess what? I did and so you do. No one may know the work put in to achieve yr goals, but yrself.

I had a vague idea of this from reading this forum on my free time, and that is what pushed me to decline on the extended warranty. At least he was respectful and cool about my decision. but he was pretty relentless lol. He kept saying "ok just humor me this one last time man" and kept incrementally discounting it LOL

Are you the other white Supra I see on 46 around pal park from time to time?!
I see a few when I visit Pal Park as well. There is a guy in pal park who owns one and I always pass by just to see it on his driveway lol

No reason to feel any guilt at this point man. It may not even be guilt. At 23, you may have settled. You probably want a 911 or something better deep down.

Enjoy it while you don't have to shop for vehicles with mandatory seat requirements for kids!

At 23, I was the proud owner of a 1995 Nissan 200SX (SE-R)...lol.

I like your trajectory better.

Ditto what the last couple of people said here. I’m older and wiser now but had imposter syndrome for years despite having multiple degrees and accounting certifications. I worked my A## off to get where I am today but distinctly remember a conversation with my wife where I openly questioned why someone would want to hire me for 50% more than the job I was leaving. I felt out of sorts for months but learned from the experience. Now I often counsel my younger staff to let those feelings go and do the best job they can while enjoying the rewards that come with it. Note: I literally just had that conversation today with a young new hire who is the first person in his family to earn a degree and is making more than both his parents combined even though it’s his first post-college job. Only you know the trade offs you have to make to afford it, but I say let it go and enjoy your Supra!

As for extended warranties…if you do decide to buy one (and have no plans to mod your car), go through Jennifer (she moved to a Lexus dealer but is easy to find) or Jerry at Midwest Superstore. Both will beat any local dealer offers by A LOT and they only sell Toyota backed extended warranties. I tend to drive cars for well over 100K miles and have done OK with extended warranties on Fords, Hondas Nissans…I know it tends to be the exception but I like knowing I can drive my cars while the amount I’ll pay for repairs is a fixed amount for whatever mileage warranty I decide to buy. As for the Supra…it’s made by BMW so I’m assuming I’ll have to fix something serious well before I hit the 120K mileage mark (I bought a 10 yr 120K mile warranty from Jennifer).

When I was 23, a year out of college with a decent job, I bought myself an STi for $35k. Adjusting for inflation that’s just over $50k today, a little low but not far off the Supra’s price tag. So don’t feel guilty, if I had been born 15 years later I’d probably be in the exact same position you are now.
