Oh, because it doesn't seem too fair that BMW uses what was pretty much a secret motor for the MKV without any means of paying them back

@A70TTR, Thank you. It's certainly not the best prospect (regarding a manual in either the A90 or Z4) but one can't fault enthusiasm and hope.

Even swapping in a Z4 I6TT ECU might not work so well from the sound of it since the programming/mapping and possibly the ECU and harness connectors themselves would probably be different.

From the OEM side, as I understand how it works with manual transmissions and ECU coding today, it is that a substantial part of the programming (for any manual car) has to involve some kind of randomized shift logic that is not at all needed when you use an A/T, CVT or DCT and that this applies to everything from emissions to ignition to variable valve timing, etc. I imagine that compared to even 20 years ago this has only become a more challenging task for the engineers. Would that be accurate? I know TSS was the main reason for this on the A90 (at least initially) but all the current regulatory hurdles also come to mind.

We know the M2 Competition and M3/M4 will still have manuals for the current generations at least.

Here's hoping lingering European tastes for manuals at least allow a business case for a manual Z4 version in the EU. I'll take any good manual surprise if there is one.

Anyway, thank you for your thoughts on it, A70!

@Jdmuscle it's BMW's fault,not Toyota's!:popcorn::popcorn:
Agreed. Toyota only ordered the car.. like soup at Soup Nazi place and asked for bread. BMW said.. no bread for you. Toyota stfu and turned around and went to Japan.. cause.. they didn’t want to push their luck and settled for the soup BMW gave them.

Basically it was tested and killed off, and given some newer info it seems that may have been a BMW decision more than anything else which is surprising until you realize they're starting to do that to all their cars.

I think if a manual is to ever come along at this point, it would have to be specially requested/paid for/etc by Toyota specifically for the Supra.

But yes, as Tada said it's not impossible...
That’s sad news @A70TTR

Was really hoping for that redeeming factor with this car..

While still sending the soup to be inspected

@A70TTR The other day when you mentioned the new project you have been working on , i was really curious if it was some upcoming toyota sports car with entry level specs, and generally i am very curious about the three sports cars that mr. Tada is saying from as far as 2013 , have you heard anything at all ? thanks!!

My interest in this vehicle also completely pivots on the possibility of a manual transmission. It's looking pretty grim right now, but one can hope.

@A70TTR, I just want to show my appreciation for the tidbits of information you've dropped over time. It's been the only thing keeping me still checking back every now and then for a glimmer of hope.

All my current projects are Lexus. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any entry level sports cars in development atm.

@A70TTR .. from the point you left the MKV project to now.... did you expect the car to be different from what it’s turning out to be? Not looking for details but rather a..

A) I expected it to be something else and what’s coming out seems to be watered down a lot since I’ve left. Or..
B) it’s pretty much what I was expecting it to be.. or..
C) it’s actually turning out better than I hoped it to be.

somewhere between B and C... if the car is indeed heavier than 1400kg, then that would be unexpected from the time I was still on that side; however, one of these I6 trims has that iron block motor with the yamaha tuned head and that is far more badass than the tuned B58 I thought was coming.

I always expected the auto only thing from a long time back, and I always expected the car to be +/-5k from 55k so...
