Hey everyone,

Frequent lurker but non-poster here. I've been looking around the mkv forums and YouTube having read/watched every thread and video related to the AWE Track Exhaust but other than the one video AWE has posted themselves, I found that a stock DP + AWE Track catback sound check/review has been tough to find. Mostly found reviews on the non-res touring with stock DP. Some little tidbits here and there on the forums but I'd like to make a thread to centralize people's experiences on this specific setup.

Essentially just looking to hear from people who have gone with this setup to hear your thoughts on actually owning and driving it. Sound level compared to stock, tone, drone, complaints, likes, etc. Bonus points if you have a video from interior and/or exterior. I'm aware that a catback does nothing for performance on this car but this is more for the small group of people like myself who want more sound while still using the stock DP. Perhaps you ran this setup for a bit before grabbing a downpipe, either way would love to hear what people have to say about their experience!

Cheers

Sounds phenomenal both inside and out. For me, drone between 1800 and 2200 rpms under moderate throttle and on will try to make your head explode. It probably wouldn’t have been an issue if were younger, but I did switch it out for the touring pieces and glad I did. Still sounds wonderful and without the drone.

My advice, if you can money wise, get the track version to try first. Then get the touring conversion if you feel the drone is too much for you. That is one of the beauties of AWE’s system. Otherwise, I would say get the touring and don’t worry about it because they are damn near identical in sound.

Just get the touring resonated off the rip and future proof the system in case you choose to swap the downpipe later on. Having a brand new 60k sports car that drones like a straight piped shitbox isn't ideal in my world unless it's a dedicated race car. I have the resonated touring and experienced it with stock, aftermarket catted, and catless downpipe and I can tell you it's very loud even with stock DP and doesn't drone at all with a stock or aftermarket DP. Sounds the loudest obviously catless but the tone was deeper with the cat but it's not raspy at all even catless which is something I love.

Thanks for the input. Little worried about the head exploding drone as I've got a track version on the way... When you say to get the touring conversion, are you referring to the resonated or non-resonated with a stock DP? If you've got any sound clips running the stock DP+AWE I'd love to hear it!

Thanks for sharing. I was reading on AWE's website that they recommend non-resonated with a stock DP if you go the touring route. After what you've said though, I'll take a look at how the resonated touring sounds - though it sounds like you were planning ahead for an aftermarket DP. Got any sound clips you took while the stock DP was still on by chance?

I've never recorded the exhaust but what I can say is video wouldn't do any justice in person it's a loud system regardless of DP if you are 100% staying stock DP go with non res. The resonators just cut rasp that aftermarket DP's present but if staying stock DP its unnecessary to get resonated. If you plan on tuning later on an aftermarket DP is pretty much essential though so keep that in mind.

Honestly sound clips won't do it justice. I have the track edition on stock DP and it is loud; I noticed a bit of drone at first, but found out that was actually from ASD, once I had that coded out it sounds fantastic. It is significantly louder than stock, but has a nice deep tone to it; there are still the resonators in the mid-section which I find keep the in-cabin noise within a reasonable limit. Compared to my truck which was running a pre-axle system w/o a resonator the track edition is tame inside the cabin.

Definitely a good point about future tuning. In a way the track edition might work out since I could have the option to convert to either res or non-res touring in the future if i do end up looking into tuning the car and adding a downpipe.

Interesting, that's something I didn't think about. I've seen posts on the forum about the car sounding better after removing the ASD (no specifics) but you found it to really lower the drone? I definitely think if that's the case then that's an avenue I'll have to explore further - guess it'll come down to whether to code it out or pull the fuse.

I know generally sound clips don't portray exhaust sounds very well, but the fact that both of you seem to be positive on the sound really has me hyped up! :headbang:

It caused a weird boomy sound that you could still hear over the exhaust. I thought it was just the exhaust and that it would've completely drowned out the ASD but someone here had recommended shutting it off still and I was surprised how much difference it made.

Was curious and looked up other threads on effects of ASD with a louder exhaust and I think I am totally 100% going to end up taking your advice. Cheers

Sorry, don’t have any sound clips. There is a video on YouTube of someone with the resonated touring with a stock DP. One of those short attention span videos.

I decided to only get the two Helmholtz resonators part of the touring conversion (rear section). So essentially I have the resonated touring version since the track version only comes resonated.

If that’s confusing let me know. I tend to throw too many details when explaining things. It’s a damn curse.

I'll definitely check it out, thanks for the heads up. I think I know what you're referring to. Third one on this list I took from AWE's site:

Have you installed the exhaust yet? I am literally having this same back and forth in my head right now....touring or track....resonated or non...too much drone with track...lol
Def interested to hear your thoughts!
