Wow a test drive Pande? Where did you score that, dont think there are any demo's in WA.

I actually had subject to test drive in my O&A, didnt pan out that way.

What did you think, you ordered one so you obviously liked it. Was it run it?

Funny story actually, I'm in Melbourne and I spoke to over 10 dealers and nobody had a MT to test drive for months. Was waiting on Brighton to get theirs and it's still stuck on the port.

Whilst waiting I took delivery of a work ute from Mentone Toyota, and speaking to the rep, he mentioned they have an executive driven MT. So got ahold of a salesperson and they let me test drive it. Wasn't that impressed with the auto I drove 2 months back, it felt too numb: but the manual was great!!

Hahahaha nice Pande.
I was a bit nervous about spending that much having never driven one (auto or manual) but definitely no regrets.

So.. I have actual news!

Firstly, the great news is that it looks like my car has magically been built (WTF) and is already on a boat! Estimated delivery is early June.. depending on the ports playing ball, etc.

Also, I got to test drive a manual and well.. it wasn't exactly love at first shift. I didn't hate it but it just wasn't.. comfortable? I had to move the seat forward because the clutch pedal was very deep.. and this increased the ride height because moving the seat forward seems to move it forward and up. The footwell also felt pretty crowded which may be good for heel/toe changes but felt a bit cramped to my size 10.5 feet.

The power was batshit crazy but the delivery didn't feel very smooth. While we were giggling like school children every time I punched the throttle, the manual gear box (and more than likely, my changes) made the experience quite jolting. I think this was mainly due to my not being used to the car's clutch and gear selector but it just added to this feeling of lack of comfort, for want of a better term. Don't get me wrong, it was a lot of fun, but for me, I think it will just take some getting used to.

I also continue to hate the dash.. which is possibly the only Toyota looking part of the entire car. This was made worse having come straight from a BMW dealership. Thankfully, I mostly used the HUD during the test drive so it wasn't too bad.

Beyond this, the dealer suggested that they are currently unable to place orders for yellow Supras. They're not sure if this is a temporary paint supply issue or perhaps a premonition for a MY24 change? If it is, it will make yellow MTs rare af.

A mixed bag really. lol.

EDIT: And I experienced the wind buffeting problem for the first time today. Whoever says that isn't an issue hasn't driven the Supra at speed with the windows down. Wowsers.. I'm going to be applying a fix for that as soon as this thing hits my garage!

Glad you finally got a date.

You can move the seat forward without it increasing in height - I just can't remember the exact way to do it as I sold mine a few months ago haha.

Curious, what don't you like about the dash? I was quite the opposite - found the HUD distracting but loved the big central tach, just like an A80/911/RCF

I hope so. My passenger's seat seemed to be much lower but I'm sure it will work out. Just annoying.

It's just cheap and nasty looking. Even if I discount the recent trip to BMW where even the lower spec cars have a much more polished dash.. I'm coming from this office space:

The dead plastic around the digital display in the Supra looks awful and the rev counter - with the lines going through the numbers is ugly af. Despite the digital aspect, I think the whole thing looks very dated and belongs in the 80s.. but no car is perfect I guess.

80s? That's a stretch. I agree it's not as modern but then again the partnership and layout was decided years before release in 2019. So we are looking at a 4-5+ year old design.

Interesting lmfao,
Glad you finally have an idea on yours and having done 1,600ks in mine now I know what you mean about the clutch.
My evo3 wrx is 24 years old and the shift quality and clutch are both better than my Supra's. The shift isnt standard tho, I had linkages taken out a long time ago but nevertheless it shows the Supra definitely isnt perfect.
You do get used to it pretty quickly but I still get the odd jerky take off in her......thats all part of the charm of driving a manual tho I reckon, its all up to me.
I feel the difference jumping in one car after the other, the Supra is good but my rex is better. The power tho, omg its chalk and cheese......and I'm still running the Supra in!
I disagree on the dash, I really quite like it. It is a bit plasticky I guess but what isnt these days.

Fair enough!

I'm grateful to not have "a screen" that changes to what you like - I really, don't like them.

The new 911 GT3 are my pick - lovely big analogue tacho, flanked by smaller screens

Now that's what I'm taking about!

And it's not necessarily about a screen.. it's more just something that is well designed and pops. I think it's hard to argue that the Supra dash does that.. but horses for courses.

Yeah.. I've been spoiled by the Type R shift for the last 15 years so I think we're on the same page. Thinking about it, I think everything was set to sport in the Supra and maybe that also added to the lack of finesse. Does turning off the engine sport mode setting perhaps change the throttle response? Might make it a tad smoother?

I just don't think its well laid out or looks particularly well designed. Too much negative space filled with plastic and those lines going through the numbers are particularly clunky to my eyes. The GT3 example looks retro modern and neat. I'm really into design so yeah..

I also kind of agree that a full screen doesn't look great either but its a cheap and easy way to make things look neat at the very least.

As an aside, I sat in the new Z today just for laughs. Ironically, what the salesguy said was way too accurate: It's cheaper than a Supra. Indeed, in every. single. way. What a POS. lol.

Yes, there is a difference in sport mode I think lmfao. I checked the options the other day actually thinking the transmission was one of them too but it isnt. So it could be throttle response like you said.
Having said that though I always start her in sport mode unless I am driving into work which is a short trip into the CBD through 50kph suburban streets.
It is noticeably easier to be smooth the couple of times I've done that.

I plan to code it to automatically start in sports mode too. Maybe customising the sports mode may help?
