I don't usually follow BMW news but this popped up on my phone and what do you know, the largest BMW SUV will share the same engine as the MKV. I know the X5 was always gonna have it, but this just pushed me to the edge.

https://www.autoblog.com/2018/10/16/2019-bmw-x7-three-row-crossover-revealed-9102wmb/

I was telling myself the V35A in the LS500 wasn't sporty enough because it comes in Lexury sedans and eventually in the Tundra/Land Cruiser so Toyota didn't want it's halo car sharing the same "boring" engine. But now BMW is just tossing the B58 in everything and it's not even the top trim engine in those SUVs!
This article says nothing about the Supra, nothing about the top trim B58 or the B58 in general - just says 335hp

There are dozens and dozens of articles that say the Supra and Z4 will have 335hp as well, journalists are lazy and are just googling the hp of the current B58.

Yes BMW does actually put their motors in all their cars in the same way Toyota and Lexus do it

Nevertheless, the Supra still had several unique parts and a unique engine code so we can't confirm it is the "boring" version

Forget the power figures, what else does BMW currently offer that is a turbo inline 6 other than the B58? If it's not identical to the Z4/MKV engine it wouldn't be that far off. Probably over 90% similar.

I really love the car, probably everything about it except the engine. Maybe Toyota would come to their senses in a few years and put something with Japanese engineering in there but that's highly doubtful.

The comparison to a GTR is to show Nissanā€™s ideology and pursuit of evolving the GTR. Itā€™s to show how a manufacturer with less money can still produce a real Japanese product...no matter what the economic climate is. We all know it costs more than any Toyota right now, but the point is to show how Nissan cared about making a legend come back to life and retain its seat as Japanā€™s top dog at any cost....and Toyota didnā€™t. Shame on you Toyota! The Supra was a GTR competitor remember, not anymore....this is why I bring up the GTR. However, now that everyone sees the MKV Supra as a failure, your now sick of hearing about the GTR? What happened to all the GTR comparisons before we all found out it was going to be a Z4 hardtop???
You forgot to mention how it weighs almost as much as RC-F due to being AWD

NSX is top dog now btw

I think PerformanceSound is hilarious. Everyone needs a voice to point out the short falls in things to look at the picture for all it's ups and downs. The execution is annoying at times, but this is the internet.

There is some truth to the speeches, and most of us internally hope the new Supra will have more Toyota in it then what has been released so far. But, ultimately the car ain't out yet. Which is why most of us are here. And to all the MKIV worshiping all I could say is, nostalgia is a blinding drug.

Funny thing about the NISMO GTR. I remember watching a video by Motor Trend ,when they used to post on YouTube, doing a Head to Head episode with the AMG GTR against the NISMO GTR on Laguna Seca Raceway. And the AMG beat the NISMO by 2 secs flat. Now, I know excuses could be made like Randy Pobst can't drive, Laguna Seca is a terrible track to test on, or Motor trend is bias. But I would bet my last dollar, that if the NISMO beat the AMG all excuses would magically disappear.
