The cap is to build the cars, design the aero, etc. Engines aren't part of the cap since not all teams build them. The drivers and top personnel are so expensive, if they were part of the cap, they'd be racing soap boxes lol. Max is $60 million, Hamilton $40 million, with a cap of $145 million, that doesn't leave much.

Before the cost cap, Mercedes spent the most money, by far. And now that they can't, they're having a harder time.
Appreciate the info from both of ya! I saw Ferrari gets a bonus just for being there. Bringing the name and heritage.

Would be great to see all these guys do a GT Cup series or better yet… MX5 Cup, lol. Could you imagine. Reduced to skill, consistency & mental game, I still think Max would come out on top. But it would be quite the series to watch. Max mentioned if he continues like he’s doing, he’d like to do just that. I’d love to see it!

Formula One is a constructors championship above all else, driver's championship is second. Spec series can't compete because there's no innovation. There's no development race because they're all the same. Look at Indy. They can barely beat a Formula Two car around COTA. Max loves endurance racing, he'll end up doing Le Mans a bunch of times, and probably win it too.

I don't know when you started watching Formula One, but Max is one of those drivers you see maybe once every 20 to 30 years. Senna, Schumacher, the kinda guys that have just unbelievable raw speed. They can pull performance out of a car nobody else can.

If they all did a spec series, it would be between Max and Alonso I think.

Funny side note, Michael Schumacher and Jos Verstappen were good friends, and he was "uncle Michael" to Max, and they'd go Go-Karting all the time, and more often than not, Jos would beat Michael. Jos was an excellent driver, and he taught Max how to avoid the career mistakes he made.

I was gonna say in addition to the constructors championship. But I’m already too wordy lol. Great point! Love all the insight!

I came to F1 from Drive to Survive. It was awesome watching Max battle Lewis.

But endless complaining of Mercedes dominance and now the Red Bull dominance left me wondering how competitive is this sport. Then I go back and look at the history of these multi-year champions and how competitive the races really were. And they weren't. 2023 is not an outlier, it's the norm. The winning car can literally start from pit lane and will still win or at least podium. If they start pole they get out of DRS range within 2-3 laps are leading by a full pit stop in 20 laps.

This isn't racing.

Aggravating this situation is the biased nature of the FIA. They either don't like drivers or teams or both. And they clearly rule against them but turn a blind eye towards their favorites. Take Renault's mass dampener? Why did they rule against it? F1 liked Ferrari and Schumacher, they wanted the dynasty to last. So take out the shake weight, normalize the car driven by the Spaniard, and suddenly Ferrari and Schumacher are free. But then they tire of the teams and want a change. So rule against Ferrari's fuel trick so Merc can't get rolling. They want to change the guard from Mercedes to Red Bull so they turn a blind eye to the overly aggressive, if not outright dangerous, moves by Max. Heck they gave Max the first championship. The FIA guy was fired not for giving away the championship but rather in how blatantly obvious it was. F1 orchestrates these dynasties.

F1 is auto racing's equivalent of Pro Wrestling. Give it back to the Europeans.

Heck they gave Max the first championship
Yup, you're a DTS fan alright ? completely ignorant.

If the Abu Dhabi race was such a farse, then delete the result. Just take the race and pretend it didn't happen. Who is Champion then? Who won the most races, led the most laps?

Exactly.

Why was Hamilton even in contention to battle at the end? You want to talk about overly aggressive moves, remember Hamilton intentionally crashing out Max in Silverstone? Or Bottas going bowling in Hungary?

Yeah, yeah, Monza. Payback. And partly because of Hamilton's own doing because he forced Max on the sausage kerb that made the car jump up.

what?? We all know how much of a Merc/Hamilton hater you are but where do you get your numbers? Before the Cap era, Merc spent 21 million more then Ferrari or just over 4%, year before that Ferrari spent 10 million more then Merc. It is true Merc spent almost 60 million more then Ferrari in 2017, but in 2016 Ferrari spent 131 million more then Merc. Ferrari almost always spend the most…

Now compared to RB Merc almost always spends more, except in 2015 when RB spent 5 million more.

There you go with your view on things again.. Hamilton wrecked him on purpose, but also his fault and not Max at Monza. Just like at Brazil when max ran him off the track. That year Max didn’t know what a apex was, just dive bomb all the way across the track and stop before the other side and that was a pass..

as for Abu Dhab, rules were not followed.. period… but is what it is. You are right even if we took that result away Max won.

Rules WERE followed, and that's why the result stands, and also why they were amended the year after to clarify the language.
The only time the rules weren't followed was on lap 1 when Hamilton cut the corner (again) and didn't have to give up his gained position. Like Russell in Barcelona just last race. So let's not say FIA gave Max anything, because as far as gifts go, nobody has received more gifts than Mercedes and their drivers.

the rule where the safety car comes in the lap AFTER the lapped cars come around was followed? No it wasn’t. If they followed the rules it would’ve ended under yellow, I get why he did it. I do. But that rule was written and not followed and why they say it was human error on Masi part.

Thing is, if Lewis would’ve came in, and Max stayed out then the same restart procedure would’ve happened, you haters would be screaming how Masi changed the rules to get Lewis his 8th lol.

And before you go saying blah blah blah, straight from the FIA rule book… this is the rule we talk about, not the cars that we’re allowed to unlap them selfs.. while as far as I know unprecedented wasn’t exactly breaking the rules because like RB stated, any doesn’t many all… they clearified that rule. But this rule still stands

Then delete the result from the 2021 calendar. Easy enough to do, everyone happy.

Here's a brain teaser for you guys, Hamilton is the Human Error Champ. If they take away Abu Dhabi 21, Max is still Champion. If they take away Crashgate Singapore race, Massa is Champion, and Hamilton only a 6 time Champion ?

That has to be the funniest take on Aston Martin I’ve ever seen ???
Take away the inbreeding thing at the end, pretty spot on ?

What the hell happened to Mercedes so quickly? You almost get the feeling someone is going to find something, anything against Red Bull at this point. I thought for sure they’d have their moment with the Red Bull hoisted up in the air. Look! It has an exhaust! Fine them! They can’t possibly be beating our perfect driver Lewis Hamilton and giant money spender Mercedes team. At least that’s how it appears after watching a few drive to survive seasons and now finally watching every race this year. The target on Red Bull’s back is HUGE

Opposite take. Did you watch Monaco? The fight to stay in that no. 1 spot was insane. One little f*ck up and you could easily be out. You don’t even have to wreck. Just drive less consistent, you’re going to slide down in spots on your own. That is racing! You had wet and dry. Those kids had to be consistent. It was brilliant to watch! My favorite race so far. Consistency should be winning races. (and from the entire team). Not NASCAR style bumping and grinding. I want to see who can drive these cars at their limits and perfectly. That will never happen. But watching Max, Alonzo and others getting close to it is a beautiful thang!

DTS is the biggest nonsense ever. None of it is real. Several drivers have made comments how DTS tried to make rivalries and stories about things that were absolutely untrue.
