I used blayze, coach Colin (GT4 champ) helped me knock .8 seconds off in sims in a single IRL video review (i typically see 1.2:1 improvement in sims vs IRL, note it's delta in PBs, not total laptime), but I haven't had a dry day to put down times yet.You pick your coach. I believe you either upload your video or link to youtube.
@garudathree has used them and has good things to say.
What sim and car are you using to practice?I used blayze, coach Colin (GT4 champ) helped me knock .8 seconds off in sims in a single IRL video review (i typically see 1.2:1 improvement in sims vs IRL, note it's delta in PBs, not total laptime), but I haven't had a dry day to put down times yet.
video i sent in for review (you want to send in your best representative lap, not pb), he coached me through each corner where i had skill issues.

i've only met a handful of DE instructors who could drive their cars to the limit, let alone pass on those skills.
quality of the track model really matters more IMO, and you can usually setup a generic RWD GT car in most sims to have comparable relative behavior to your IRL build. What sim and car are you using to practice?
Obviously, this thread has matured a lot, but I think you want a "coach" to spend a weekend with you, especially if you get motion sick in the right seat. If the org will allow it, lead-follow sessions will help to reinforce the in-car sessions.Ah, yes I meant actual racing schools. I have 40+ track days under my belt and can't seem to get any faster anymore. I've had some in car instruction both free and paid and I did not get much out of it. I am looking for things like picking a specific section of the track to set up a pass or figure out the fastest way around a corner I have never seen before, judging both the camber, severity and the length of the straight right after it.
I have heard this as well, not sure where. It is a lot of money to be spent if its not good....we are talking like $7k.
Yup, agreed...and I used to be an instructor. When I felt a student was progressing beyond where I could help them, I had a couple of "go to" instructors that I'd push them to, if scheduling allowed.Instructors are very very very hit or miss.
I've seen more instructors more concerned with their ego than your driving. Ironically, they are usually the slowest drivers at track days and then complain if you drive fast.
Hhaha yup. I have many stories and I too used to be an instructor.Yup, agreed...and I used to be an instructor. When I felt a student was progressing beyond where I could help them, I had a couple of "go to" instructors that I'd push them to, if scheduling allowed.
Bad instructor story...I was an intermediate student in my old RX-8 at Summit Pt. My instructor introduced himself and told me first thing he was the lead instructor at the local BMWCCA chapter. In that moment "Great...he knows his stuff." I ran 2 sessions with him, and he corrected me and criticized me NON-STOP. As students will do with too much input, I got self conscious and started making mistakes. He got out of the car and told the event steward I was unsafe.
They assigned me another instructor for the remaining sessions, and he got in the car, told me to "take it easy." After a couple of laps, "I don't know what the hell that other guy was talking about - you're fine. Go chase that car in front of us down..."
Take away - The right instructor/coach/mentor makes your weekend.
I think one more thing to consider is letting the instructor drive your car.Hhaha yup. I have many stories and I too used to be an instructor.
I had an instructor years ago non stop complain about the speed I was carrying through the corners. Told me to pit after the second lap and then literally screamed at me about how I was driving too fast for the car. When I asked him what he meant, he said, "just get in my car and watch."
Turns out he had a car with much more power than mine, I rode with him, it was probably the most reserved lap I have ever seen from someone with "years of experience". He also said NOTHING for the laps he took me out on. I was like wtf am I supposed to learn from this. After a couple laps, we pitted and I thanked him (for nothing) and then said I was curious what his PB was at the track. Turns out he was four seconds slower than me. I was like dude, get the F out of here.
So basically he belittled me, taught me nothing, and it turns out he was slow as f.
How did you get the can bus data on the screen?I used blayze, coach Colin (GT4 champ) helped me knock .8 seconds off in sims in a single IRL video review (i typically see 1.2:1 improvement in sims vs IRL, note it's delta in PBs, not total laptime), but I haven't had a dry day to put down times yet.

The Racechrono app does it if you record with the phone and log data via OBD2 via the phone. How did you get the can bus data on the screen?
I wonder if this can be done with JB4 data. The Racechrono app does it if you record with the phone and log data via OBD2 via the phone.
If you do have separate data. Say... an AIM or RaceCapture device and record via a GoPro, the RaceRender app is good at merging the two and customizing the overlay: https://racerender.com/RR3/Features.html
I used RaceRender with this video. External dedicated camera + RaceCapture CAN + OBD2 datalogging
You can export to a .csv right? If so, yes.I wonder if this can be done with JB4 data.
