Backstory:
  • My car is in the shop for brake work
  • Shop has had the car for almost a month
    • I've already complained and consider the matter handled
    • Even if that doesn't change the facts
  • I would like them to start the car and let the engine spin for a little bit, since it has been so long
  • Shop is reluctant to start the car with the brakes completely disconnected
Experiment: The internet tells me that some Toyota cars can start without the brake pedal, by powering on the car, then holding the Start button for 10-15s

Request: Can one of y'alls try it and report back? If it works, I'll ask them to try again. If it doesn't work on the Supra, I won't bring it up.

My car has been at the dealership waiting for diff tools and a seal for one month. There are now two other Supras there waiting for something. I had suggested that they keep the battery charged, but apparently a discharged battery is no big deal to them.

I havent started my car since end of October and battery is fine. It's not an exotic nothing major happen. If the battery dies while it's there get them to replace it.
Just get a battery tender. $30 Amazon shipped. ? In this day and age it you let your hobby car's battery die, that's pretty lame.. :dunno:

While I typically agree with not being overly paranoid, a few months back I was watching this video about this Supra getting PPF installed and the battery drained during the installation process. The run around the dealership gave the owner is crazy. And as a result, this has made me slightly paranoid about the battery/ECU relationship, so I can understand the OP wanting to have his car run every now and then which I don't think is an unreasonable request.

Skip to 22:34 in the video for the story.

I’ve seen this video. They had the headlights on and doors open much of the time during the wrap including overnight ?

Shocking service, they should have tenders there and plug it in for your peace of mind...

I know, which I don't really understand. But the point being....if the battery gets low enough, it can fuck with the ECU/individual control modules. Having to deal with a shitty dealership experience aside, having to reset the control modules due to a low battery sounds annoying. Definitely recommend the tender route if possible. And as many on here have stated, the car can be fine if not started for months. But, I don't think the OPs request to have his car started every now and again while at the shop is unreasonable.

It's an AGM battery. AGM batteries don't die from discharging. It'll be fine.
