Hello! I found this Supra for sale. Only has 9k miles on it. I put a deposit on it. I actually think it was a former users here car. Seems nice and well taken care of. There seems to be no one in the area to do a ppi. Carfax says it’s clean and well taken care of. I think the users name was magneticsupra but not sure if it’s the same car. What do you all think? That is listed surprisingly cheap for the mileage, I’d try to get an independent PPI even if it takes some effort.

Seems to be a solid deal and it's a tunable ECU. However, my only concern is the frequency of oil changes may mean this unit suffers from oil consumption issues. A PPI isn't going to catch that. There should still be some powertrain warranty remaining but questionable how Toyota is handling those issues. Maybe use that concern as leverage in negotiations and work out an additional warranty; get anything to that effect in writing.

Yeah it’s modified a bit which is cool but could be concerning at the same time lol. What color did you end up going with?

That’s a good point. The oil consumption issue slipped my mind. Also is Toyota warranty transferable like that? I called the last Toyota dealer the car was serviced at. She said all looked good with the car but she avoided all answers to warranty questions lol kinda made me think the car has been flagged. Or previous owner already tuned it.

The remainder of the original 5yr/60k powertrain warranty should convey unless it was already flagged due to mods. If it's been tuned then it's for sure gone, but that's about the only guaranteed way to kill the warranty. There should be a way to verify it's still in effect (or not) and/or negotiate an aftermarket warranty into the deal.

i want the honest opinions lol. I’ve read up on the oil consumption issue and It’s seems to be fairly controllable. But tbh most turbo engines eat oil right

It's a very real problem for a very small percentage of cars. My former '21 had zero issues with oil consumption and I beat the snot out of it on track. There is however a subset of 21s that burn over a quart in less than 1k miles in 'normal' driving conditions. I'd call that a real fucking problem. It's something an informed buyer should at least be aware of.
