Planning on getting the Active Autowerke Catted DP at some point. I’m located in Cali, just wondering how much people are paying to get these installed. Sure I can attempt myself, but very worried I’d screw it up somehow as I’ve never done any sort of car work in my life besides changing my Camrys oil. I got quoted $600 from someone, but I feel like that’s a lot?

What part of CA are you in?

For a shop to do it, should be 1 maybe 2 hours tops. $600 does sound way too much.

$600 is 4 hours of work. If they charge $150 per hour, that seems excessive.
In Bakersfield, some shops have refused to do it since they said it’s illegal to :( The guy who said $600 works on newer/older Supras regularly. I’ll try to reach back out and see if he can do it a bit cheaper.

don't know any shops out there, but if you're willing to make a few hours drive i've heard good things about dialed in autohaus, you can check with them to see the price for install

Got offered to do it for $255 by another mechanic here in Bakersfield, owns the same color Supra as I do (Absolute Zero) lol. Has a shop and everything, so I’ll just go with him. $255 seems very fair, $600 was a bit to steep for me (and a bit overpriced)

There used to be a law in CA (not sure about now) that you can replace a cat only if it has over 100,000 miles on it. I guess if the new cat looks the same as the OEM one, then you're safe.

Doesn’t matter. New cats for replacement have to have an EO Number on it to make it legal for the state of California, which would also allow it to pass a Smog visual inspection. CARB has to be all extra about it.

A lot of aftermarket cats come with an EPA certification but that doesn’t matter in CA if there is no EO number, it’ll still fail inspection. It might pass the actual smog test, but without that EO number it’s a fail. Thanks CARB.

That's CA for you. They no longer do a tail pipe (sniff) test on newer vehicles like ours. They DO do a visual inspection and plug into the OBD port to verify that there's no codes or "not ready" display.
Thankfully, the fist smog check is not for 6 or 8 years after being purchased, new.
