I'm currently in the market for either a MKV or M4 Xdrive. It's a tough decision because I have always been a Euro guy (owned AMG & M cars) but the styling and price of the MKV is whispering sweet nothings in my ear while the front of the G82 M4 burps in it.

Searching used MKVs I found two Supras priced relatively the same with the same trim level (3.0 & Prem) except in the photos, one was missing the factory engine power brace while the other has it. Curious if the previous owner placed an aftermarket one on and forgot to replace it or do certain models not have it?

One more question, as far as power goes: It seems like the drivetrain can handle a turbo swap and a generous jump in HP before it needs modding. Am I right in this statement? I was looking to purchase a full turbo upgrade kit before buying the Supra if I decide to go with it.

Any help is appreciated!

The one without the brace could be a 2020. IIRC those didn’t come with it.

As for power, the clutch is the weak point in the manuals (i wanna say around 450-500), while the transmission will start slipping in the autos, but you can get in the ballpark of 600-700whp and wtq before that

Thanks Roman! I was looking at the AMS Alpha8 kit so 700 is around what I was shooting for. Auto will definitely be the way I go as I have evolved into a lazy driver in my older age.

Link them both, nobody here is gonna buy it out from under you. In general if you're going to mod for horsepower gains then get a 2020 for easier stateside tuning. 2021+ will require sending ECU overseas but isn't all that terrible a process. Turbo, downpipe, and tune will get you a reasonable gain in HP regardless.

2020 is is 2 port and 2021+ is 6 port turbo so you need to keep kit compatibility in mind.

HUGE info Traxion! I didnt know that you had to send the ECU overseas. I'll have to look into all that goes into that.

Honestly I dont see a big difference between 2 vs 6 ports if your tuning, but I'm not extremely well versed in the ins&outs of turbos.

Get the Supra for a sports car that you drive sometimes and want to tinker with. (lightweight, darty, want to rotate)

Get the M4 Xdrive for daily driving duties that you will leave mechanically stock.(heavy, two more rear seats, "better" engine)

Both are fast cars!
