So I leafed through the 25 pages of search results on the forum if you look up Supra GT4 looking for some info but couldn’t find it so if this is not a new topic I apologize.

I am looking for some detailed information about the Supra GT4… specifically the differences between GT4 and stock with respect to weight savings and air management/ductwork at the front of the car. Not the aero, but the ducting.

Has anyone done the Supra GT4 front bumper? If so did you also use the GT4 front ductwork? Aside from the obvious difference of the extra vent at the high pressure zone in the front of the car, what’s the difference in the ductwork? Materials? Weight? Air routing?

what else can be done to save sprung weight at the front of the car? Lightweight replacements for existing parts, omissions, etc?

here is a link for reference of what I’m looking at.

GT4 uses the front middle air inlet to feed the cooling stack (not for induction air like some people think). It also uses larger ducting to the side radiators.

As far as weight savings, North American Supras use VERY stout side radiator brackets cages because of our crash test laws. The EU models use aluminum brackets that use less than half the material and are much much lighter. This would be a nice weight savings upgrade for North American Supras.

I’m running the GT4 bumper inlet/duct & hood vent. I have the bumper inlet/duct scanned, gonna run some test to see which material/process is best to get them made.

phd racing makes lightweight brackets similar to the EU ones, but these seem a little flimsy for my liking. Personally, I would have preferred if they were to box the structure. Would be a nice compromise.

Those are the OEM EU mounts marked up $2-300 depending on your sources.

Is the GT4 ductwork made out of something lighter weight than OE? Any chance you took some pictures during install that you could send?

If you’re looking for weight savings, you’re not gonna find any. It utilizes the factory shroud and you’re adding a molded inlet/duct.

You know the OEM ductwork is plastic and weighs very little right?
It would seem that way to me as well.

I have been talking with CSG and they mentioned alternative ductwork options and I guess I’m trying to find out more about that. More discovery than anything else. What’s the difference, how can I lose weight from the front, what’s out there, etc. you guys have already posted a lot of great stuff and turned me on to some things I didn’t know were out there.

good to know I’m barking up the wrong tree with the ductwork/shroud. The bracket was good. Any other known ways I can shed some poundage from the front?

I can't believe that bracket would cost 600 bucks from a dealership... am i looking up the completely wrong number for the US one?

You’re looking up the US parts.

BMW part numbers:
51647491713 / 4
51647491715 / 6
51647437187 / 8

Change the last digit to the even number get the right side parts.

I found that too.. I’m too scared to buy it first.
I’m planning to buy it but I’m afraid I might face some issues with installing it that maybe the trunk wires gets in my way, I’m not sure with it.
but I think it’s worth trying.
