When it comes to performance parts, the engineering philosophy behind a product can make all the difference, and Infinity Design's Carbon Intake for the GR Supra exemplifies this principle. Their approach focuses on maximizing airflow while minimizing weight, resulting in a part that not only enhances performance but also aligns with the aesthetic appeal of your vehicle.
Pros:
1. Well Thought Out Engineering: The design is meticulously crafted, demonstrating a deep understanding of airflow dynamics and thermal efficiency. This philosophy translates into tangible performance gains on the track.
2. Engaging Company: Infinity Design is an approachable company that prioritizes customer engagement. Their team is responsive, offering personalized experiences that enhance the purchasing process.
3. Made to Order: Each intake is made to order, ensuring that you receive a product tailored to your needs. My order arrived exactly according to the estimated project completion time, reflecting their commitment to customer satisfaction.
4. Packaging Quality: The intake was packaged with exceptional care, showcasing high-quality materials that protect the part during transit.
5. Lightweight and Attractive: Weighing in at a feather-light design, this intake is not only functional but also visually striking. It is truly impressive to hold and inspect, with a finish that complements the GR Supra’s aesthetic.
6. Straightforward Installation: Installation was a breeze, with fitment being nearly perfect. The part aligned seamlessly with the existing setup, making the process quick and hassle-free.
7. Performance: Early performance testing seems to support Infinity Design’s engineering philosophy, suggesting that this intake delivers on its promises. For control data I logged IAT at VIR on 11/16 with the stock air intake. Ambient temp was 60F at the time the data was obtained and session length was 20 minutes. IAT with stock system ranged from 83F to 102.2F max during the session after the pulls leading down the back straight. On 11/17 the next day after installing the Infinity Design Intake, I logged the experimental IAT, but this time session length was 30 minutes and the ambient temp was 66F. The max IAT happened during the last lap of the session at the same point during the lap after the pulls leading down the back straight and ranged from 86F to 105.8F. To sum it up, from the control to the experimental data the ambient temp was +6F, the session length was +10 minutes, and the max IAT was in the range of +3F to +3.6F. This suggests that the Infinity Design Intake maintains IAT at least as well as the stock intake system which is a good outcome considering that the stock system is very effective at maintaining IAT on this platform.
Cons:
1. High Cost: The premium quality of the intake comes at a price, making it one of the more expensive options on the market.
2. Lack of Instructions: While installation was straightforward, the absence of clear instructions may pose a challenge for some users, particularly those less experienced with DIY modifications.
3. Longer Lead Time: Due to its exclusivity and made-to-order nature, the lead time can be longer than typical off-the-shelf options. This may require some patience, but the wait is worthwhile.
4. Induction Noise Change: While there is a small noticeable change in the induction noise, those expecting a dramatic increase may be slightly disappointed.
Overall, the Infinity Design Carbon Intake for the GR Supra is an outstanding choice for enthusiasts seeking a blend of performance and aesthetics. While it comes with a higher price tag and a few minor drawbacks, the quality, engineering, and engaging customer experience make it a worthy investment for any GR Supra owner looking to enhance their ride.
