Does sucking in "hot" air matter if it's going through a hotter turbo? I'm just wondering. On N/A cars yes iat matter on the intake. How hot does a turbo get that blows hot air that goes to an intercooler?
Valid question, here is my academically unqualified breakdown:

Hotter air is less oxygen dense than colder air, because of this the turbocharger has to work harder to compress the less dense air to achieve the same level of boost as it would in cooler conditions. This principal also directly applies to how humid the air is as well. So if you live in a hot/humid place like the south or on a tropical island, reducing your IATs is one of the most important thing you can do for power. This also applies to N/A cars, but not as much - meaning an N/A car will scale less power wise than a turbo car would in the same climate.

im not aware of any data posted that showed conclusive evidence that this makes a noticeable difference, especially since, as you mentioned, the air is going through the turbo. All the data ever posted has shown either no difference or even a slight increase in power due to the increased air volume (check out BMS and VM independent tests)

In my opinion, whether it's good or bad, if this does make a difference, and that's a big "if", the difference is too small to be noticeable or to be a contributing factor. I don’t sell intakes as power mods, and at the same time, I don’t claim they might negatively impact performance.

To me, intakes are upgrades that look and sound better than stock. Any performance change is so minimal that it’s not worth caring about or mentioning.

While we're on the topic.. do we imagine this mst intake will be louder than armaspeed or mst v2 (og)?

it should be louder than OG since its not as enclosed.

not sure about the comparison with ARMA, we would need to have both cars side by side

Intake obtained. Ordered thru x-ph. Shipped fast.

Will try and do an install/review write-up this weekend or the next. I'll do my best to compare intake temps with the OEM intake... will also do some acceleration tests compared to OEM. Mind you my data won't be as scientific as it should be, but still hopefully helpful. Other than sounds, I'm looking for better throttle response to help with heal-toe and rev matching.

You can definitely hear it easier. The replacement filters you can get on Amazon as well. Which is nice. Enjoy!!

You won't see much from IAT's as your manifold will hide most of it by just working harder. We really need temp at the filter. There is an oem sensor there but unfortunately all the current logging tools can't log it.

What intake were you running again? I checked your build thread but only the first post as I figured you'd have it updated and didn't want to go through the whole thing right now.

Thanks

thanks for being the first that I'm aware of! Very interested to see your opinions. Let us know how fitment is on the breather tube. I know people have issue in the past with that clip that holds it in place

I have the earlier version, when I 1st bought my car in 2022. It had an optional clear plexiglass cover. I didn’t do much research or know who to trust on here. So I just bought it based on availability & marketing material ?. Regardless, it looks cool, easy to replace the filter, widely available, and I can hear the woosh, that I couldn’t before, if listening for it ;)
