Wow, a hatchback rwd with 30% less interior cargo space then a mid engined porsche??? Ouch
Funny how we have completely different perspectives. Because I can't fit a set of golf clubs in the Porsche, it has less practicality than a Supra for this avid golfer.

Also, describing the Supra as a "hatchback" feels like an effort to be snitty. [thank you AG Barr] A hatchback implies a Golf-style vehicle. The most-accurate description would be a sports car, just like the Porsche.

The cayman is a hatch, too. It has two trunks yet it cannot fit big items.

I can see that, but it remains to be seen if a full set of clubs fit in the Supra.

I also question how those numbers are calculated. I can see the mk5 having more storage volume over the GT86, but even with the front and rear trunks of the Cayman, I have trouble envisioning it having more being that the motor is right behind the front seats. I wonder if they are counting headroom or some BS.

Of course it's a sports car, hatchback is just he body style qualifier. Versus coupe or hatchback, like the old Celicas. Hatchbacks are awesome.

I'm not an expert but if we're being technical, the correct word is Fastback not Hatchback. I've spent a decent amount of time looking for a 1st gen Celica to ignore this lol.

Fastback is Fords marketing term for these mustang's I believe...

Still has a trunk so not a hatchback.

From the wikipedia page on the first gen Celica...

"Body style: 2-door notchback coupe; 2-door convertible; 3-door liftback"

But of course the first gen Celica is notorious for looking like a mini first gen Mustang so I'm sure people borrow fords nomenclature all the time when talking about them.

If we're getting technical :)

Yeah Toyota uses liftback, as it is in my quote. But, if it has a hatch, then I call it a hatchback. We tend to latch onto the most popular terms for things so people know WTF we're talking about. Hence why most refer to the mk4's removable roof as a Targa top (Porsche's term actually) vs Sport Roof which is what Toyota calls it.

After watching many reviews on the Supra, one concern is the lack of interior storage... especially hidden storage.

None of the reviewers indicate there is a glovebox on the passenger side, even people whom normally show the glovebox like Alex On Autos. This would indicate there isn’t a glovebox, but it does appear like there is a glovebox latch. Has everyone just missed that there is a glovebox?

It's also covered in the strangest soft rubber material. I have no idea why, but its a different material to the rest of the dash. maybe to be softer on your knees if you hit it.

I hope it doesn't melt like the is300.

It's not a matter of opinion. It's two different things when it comes to being a liftback or a hatchback. Angle of 30° or less when closed is classified as a liftback. Anything more is classified as a hatchback.
