I stopped swapping things when I was 12. I don't mean to derail this thread but is there a reason people don't just sell their shit and then buy new shit, like adults? Genuine question.

You never know it could happen with someone wanting to relive their youth.

The Supra spans all age groups here. If I could afford it I would buy it outright and gift it to my Dad.

Your car is nice. A Supra is nice. No one who has a Supra would rather have your car.

This is literally why money was invented. Use money.
it's because while his car has value, it's rapidly declining. the people that want a bel air at this point in time are either passing away, or already own one. the number of people on this earth that own a supra and want a bel air is probably in the single digits.

very nice car! Always love to see people restore old cars from a time period. My time period are the cars made in the 90s And early 2000. I drawled over restored NSX, RX7,MK4,300zx. Used to own the S2000.

Not trying to derail this thread any more than other posts but collector car market is not rapidly contracting, per actual sales price trends on Mecum, BJ, BAT, Cars & Bids, Autabuy, Haggerty, etc. Like any disposable income asset, these things go up and down relative to consumer confidence, economic stability, and financing availability. While i agree the number of people who can afford collector cars is declining, their values have only taken about a 10% market adjustment in the last couple of years. Will values plummet? Maybe, but family wealth (and sentimental attachment) may keep a lot of collector cars in family ownership and those that are sold may go to collectors who can afford more than 1. I've witnessed more of a steeper decline in values of cars that people were grossly overpaying for and once the shiny object effect wears off, they sell them for a fraction of what they paid for them (Countach, R32, R33, R34 GT-R's, actually about anything imported from Japan in the last 5 years, etc.)

I think about when people were saying that the market was crushing truck values when gas prices were through the roof several years back and here we are today, still the majority of Americans are tied to the gas pumps with their unwavering love for huge trucks and SUVs.

i am talking very specifically about postwar to modern era US-made cars between, since that is how companies like Hagerty define it. nothing I'm taking about is new or unique - car and driver talked about aging out a decade ago. you are certainly right that concours d'elegance cars will continue to fetch millions. but what I'm taking about is the more tangible value cars, the ones in fair/good/great condition.

https://www.caranddriver.com/featur...classic-car-marketand-could-crash-it-feature/

"“As different generations age out, their cars do, too,” says dealer Lichty. “While the owners may die, the cars don’t. They don’t become worthless, but there’s a shift in the types of people who buy them and the types of collections where they go.” The Cadillac V-16s and Duesenbergs survived the shift from the World War II generation just fine, Lichty explains, but ordinary mid-1920s and ’30s cars, such as Buicks and Dodges, are stone cold right now. “They’re certainly not worthless, just hard to get rid of,” he says."

https://www.iamagazine.com/markets/boomers-hand-over-the-keys-to-the-classic-car-market

“A lot of baby boomers are leaving the market and cashing in on their collections for retirement income or just to do something else with their money," says Brook McGuire, strategy lead for specialty products at Safeco.

“They want to sell their collection and, in their mind, their car is worth three times more than anybody else's car. But the valuation for some vehicles is coming down and this is largely based on the baby boomer-era collectors who are selling off some or all of their collection," McGuire says. “Suddenly there is a lot of supply in the market and that's driving prices down for a lot of vehicles that, frankly, have probably been a little overvalued."

I've been to a classic car show last year where the old guy in the chair yelled at people trying to peek into seeing the dashboard. what a great way to share your hobby with younger generations.
