For the first time buying my Supra almost 5 years ago I decided to check the maps version, and to my surprise it’s from 2019. There’s not a lot of good information out there, but from what I’ve gathered US vehicles should automatically (OTA) update for a specific region. The region can be set via Supra Connect, which I’ve never set up, so I’m wondering if that may be the problem. Other countries may be OTA or require updating via USB, hence why I’m making this US-specific.

Given how outdated the maps are I’m leaning towards just leaving it alone (saw something about the region maps must be applied in sequence, but not sure if that’s accurate), but now I’m wondering - is everyone receiving automatic updates, and if so, are you enrolled in Supra Connect?

I do.
As a matter of fact I got an OTA map update last Thursday (3/6) while driving.

Thanks guys. Maybe the question I should be asking is if anyone is receiving OTA updates without being enrolled in Supra Connect?

I have a 2024 and coded out auto start/stop with Bimmer Code. About 6 months later it didn’t work and could not be coded. Car has never been to a dealer.

But I do have Supra connect, so I think this confirms my suspicions that there there was an OTA update that caused it.

BMW implemented (US) changes in the 03/2023 iDrive update preventing automatic start/stop from being disabled via coding. It is completely unrelated to OTA navigation map updates which have no effect on the DME firmware.

Until now, I simply never had a reason to sign up; it’s an infrequently driven vehicle and I hadn’t given it much thought. So now it’s more of a technical curiosity.

Then why did coding out auto start stop working perfectly for 6 months then abruptly stopped working?

There could be a myriad of reasons. Perhaps your vehicle was not meeting the conditions to enable start/stop for unrelated reasons. Maybe you were consistently driving in Sport mode.

If your car had the DCM recall done to it at the dealer that would be why. After I brought mine in to have the recall done that has since stopped working when attempting to code out the auto start/stop feature and is a known change. Not sure they're working on trying to get it to work again or not. I just coded the car to start in sport mode everytime and I just swap the transmission from normal/sport as needed and leave the rest in sport mode.

I believe if you've got the engine set to sport mode it still stop activating the start/stop feature.

I remember reading that Toyota will report your driving habits to insurance providers if you use their app so I’ve steered clear of it. If the only downside of not being enrolled is the lack of automatic nav updates then I can live with it
