45th anniversaries are more important than 50ths.
What's the best filter to make it look orange?
It's not the size of your wing that counts.
Other ways to pay more for the same car.

And;
  • How much has my rare car appreciated?
  • Let’s agree that the dealer cartel markup makes sense - you gotta pay to play!
  • I’m about to roll over 150 miles - what oil for my 2nd oil change?

Street driving, no matter how spirited, is nowhere near as stressful on a car as tracking it. Even if you think you're pushing it hard on, say, tail of the dragon. No, it's still not the same. And it would be irresponsible to try.
True. However, I didn't say I was driving my car on the street the same as I would on that track. Yes, that's very different and of course totally irresponsible. I was merely addressing the warping and cracking of the 777 vent in relation to ambient temperatures.

It's attached by 3M tape which should give in terms of heat to fail more than the vent itself, but I'm no engineer so that's why I asked. Maybe it was designed to be a vanity item like a trunk lip or mirror caps, but I don't see the OEM hood being able to flex in a way to cause the warping by driving stresses alone. Unless the vent was installed in an area where the hood structure was compromised.

If it's temperature related, then it should've been addressed during manufacturing. Unless it was a defect. I don't see how daily driving in a hot city would cause any less temperature weakness than a track day in a cold climate or during winter.

Anyone with warping/cracking issues should definitely reach out to 777 to see if the vent was made to withstand tracking or is it just a mere vanity vent. For my personal use, it's held up very well. As well as the Verus hood vent which I had previously and I know Verus tests their products for track use.

Maybe it was a manufacturing defect in the early models?

The radiant heat coming out of the engine bay during track use is exponentially more than aggressive street driving. The heat is warping it, not it being attached to the hood, or the hood itself.

Mine is warped so badly now, you can even notice it via my garage cam. LMAO

You can even see the heat waves coming out of the vent via photos on track:

You forgot:

- How many Corvettes have you owned? Bonus points for a build plaque showing how unique it is.

Wow! That's crazy. Thank you for the clarification. I guess ANY plastic hood vent is a bad idea then in extreme scenarios. I wonder if the CF version is any better?

I will say, there are a couple people who havent had it warp, including one guy who lives in AZ and his car is basically a track car. But the majority do end up warping. The carbon ones, atleast the first generation are 90% fiberglass with one layer of CF, however from what ive been told, their current and future batches will be full carbon. At least thats what they've told me.

Carbon is lighter and depending on your tastes looks better but I would rather not speculate and have something fly off my car on track and injure someone. I already had a front lip fail at 134mph (my fault) so im not about to do that again lol

Taking track heat out of the equation, I’ve seen 1st hand high humidity not being good on things that absorb moisture. And found out not all plastics are created equally. I’ve had some things ruin quicker than others before I got a dehumidifier in my garage - over the years. However, I’ve never had an issue with the few carbon fiber bits out there. To make matters worst, my wife will throw things up in our schweaty well over 100 degree SWFL attic/ cooker. Those ”tests” were unintentional ?
