Two weeks ago I installed a MAPerformance catback exhaust on my otherwise stock 2023 Supra 3.0 Premium Auto. This is a 3.5” stainless steel system that retains the factory valve functionality.

My goal was to gain a slight bump in volume and character in comfort mode, and a big increase in volume in sport mode. Read on below for the results…

Ordering/delivery experience:

This was a mixed bag. I ordered directly from MAPerformance, and got a pretty good discount. The system is made to order, but only took less than two weeks to ship. Shipping was quick as well taking less than four days to arrive. Unfortunately there were several clamps missing in the box, and one extra mistakenly included. I received the order just under 4 weeks ago, and after a lot of back and forth still don’t have all the clamps. I already gave up two weeks ago and sourced some clamps myself to move forward with the install. Their customer service person has been great to work with, but the mix-up and delay has been really annoying.

Install:

Very easy, with good enough instructions available on their site. The fit and finish is excellent. Fitment is great too. There’s a good amount of adjustability with the exhaust tips. So I was able to have them protrude about the same as stock. Tips are double walled with a slant cut. Very OEM+ look. Which I like.

Sound:

Cold startup is significantly louder than stock, with a much much deeper tone. The low frequency sound is pretty intense compared to stock. However, it settles down to a very tame rumble once warmed up. Revs in comfort mode are a fair amount louder than stock, but sound great. Cruising under 3,500 RPM has some added rumble and volume, but is still very livable. Hitting 3,500 RPM in gears 1-4 opens the valve up, and things get much louder even with very light throttle. This has taken some getting used to, and I catch myself driving around it, but it’s also a lot of fun when you’re trying to get on it.

Sound in sport mode is obviously pretty loud all the time. It will drone a bit at 2,000ish RPM as expected. Burbles and pops are a fair amount louder than stock, but not crazy. Revs are nice and loud, and sound pretty good. Heavy throttle with the windows down is pretty intense, but fun.

Overall a thumbs up on sound now that I’ve gotten used to it. I’ll also note that I haven’t noticed any valve rattling yet. I didn’t experience that with the OEM exhaust, but I know a lot of aftermarket options have the problem.

Verdict:

Missing parts issue aside, I’ve grown to like this setup a lot and am glad I ordered it. The low frequency sound and valve behavior took some getting used to, and the cold starts are loud, but it’s worth it for the extra character the system brings to the car. My car finally sounds as fast as it drives.

Rather than share crappy pictures, here’s the link to the official MAPerformance post…

…I also made a short youtube video. In which I captured before and after decibel readings…

Great info! I was going to order this system and then I emailed them and realized how painful they are to work with. Slow and cryptic responses, seems like a nice setup though.

Their support person has been really nice to work with. They just screwed up on my order, and also seem to think they sent me the wrong tips altogether. I don’t think that’s the case, but they’re waiting for them to be manufactured before sending them out along with the clamps.

If you search for the exhaust on their site it won’t come up right now. I asked about that, and they said it’s because of the missing parts issue. They don’t have the parts to fill an order.

The doofus I talked to kept telling me to ‘hurry up and get your order in’ because they wouldn’t make more or it would be a very long wait time. I just had questions, but he literally drove me away and I ordered Borla instead. Will install it in the next few weeks. Still damn cold up in NH

That’s annoying.

Good luck with the Borla. Hope you like it.
