Just installed Fortune Auto 510 RMC Motorsport coilovers. Waiting for an alignment and to dial in the ride height. How important is it to corner balance right away? Is it even worth It? Seems that people have mixed opinions and have had different experiences on different platforms, so wondering how it is for this platform. I track about once a month, 160lb, intermediate and do not plan to compete anytime soon, where everything matters.

I felt like I wasted money corner balancing and I'm doing Time Trials. The shop charged me around $200-300 on top of the cost of the alignment. Dialing in the ride height on your own isn't too difficult but it a little time consuming due to the need to set the spring perch, put wheel back on, and repeat a couple times per side. And then the car needs to settle for a bit as well. If you stick with stock ride height it's 14.5 inches from middle of center cap to the bottom of the fender. You could aim for slightly over that to allow for settling. Get the alignment after you've set the heights and let it settle.

I do my own alignment and corner balancing and also can't notice any significant difference after corner balancing, although I'm not particularly fast. Mainly use the scales to just make sure weights aren't way off when changing rake, ride height, adding/removing parts etc.

So I think it's only worth doing if your racing, doing track days and are particularly fast

Way back when, I got an older car corner balanced after I installed coilovers because I didn't trust just doing it visually by checking ride heights. It might have actually been enough to just do that alone, I couldn't say.

It seems you could hold off for some day down the road, you might come across someone with a set of scales.

There’s such an art to it, you need a really experience guy doing it. If they want to do that and it’s affordable, go for it! There’s noting like having your car feel like she’s dialed in ?

So you're saying you are extracting the benefits to a corner balance in your current environment?

Nosa! I’m saying if I had a place that wanted to do that to my car, you wouldn’t have to twist my arm too hard ?

You see this one ☝? It’s worth the watch. It was rebuilt. Talk about dialing a car in… corner balancing included.

So your RACE SHOP offers this additional service free of charge for you?
Don’t I wish brotha…

I used to watch race teams do it between different tracks (RA, VIR, Sebring) & always wanted to ask if I could slide my car over for a quick corner balancing when they were in Sebring ?

LOL right!!!!! I think he does that on purpose cuz I sure thought that until I watched the damn thing. He and his dad work on cars, build them back after being submerged in water and stuff like that. He’s actually wayyyyyyy better than I was expecting. Check it out when you get a chance. The crew he has putting that thing through the steps to beat a F1 driver is amazing.

In my opinion you wont find a significant improvement from corner balancing your vehicle unless its very poorly setup currently. I like to think of corner balancing as more of a means to make sure the car is balanced (obviously) and behave the same way whether you're going through left hand or right hand corners i.e. the car is more predictable during different transitions.

Remember when you drove my car at Homestead?
That car is 4 corner balanced to the last kg, with the weight of two average people on the car. It was done by a professional racing team (they also did my alignment, they did the corner balancing as a perk, they are good friends)

Obviously it does not make a difference to me because I’m not experienced, but did it to you?

if I ever graduate from HPDE novice I will take it to them so they can re balance with my weight only on the car. ?

I’ll be honest. It wasn’t just flattery. It felt incredibly well balanced (pun intended) & fantastic!!! Why I got out and was scratching my head a bit. You definitely could feel your car was setup professionally. Luckily you were in there with me or I woulda pushed her harder. Warped rotors and all ?. Whatever they’re doing, keep it up for sure ? And curse you for pushing me over the edge to get a seat ? (I’ll be thanking you by Oct -Nov however ?).

As far as getting more experience, enjoy learning in a really well setup car. Once you start adding more camber, gummy tires, and going faster… the consumables will also go way faster as well. I couldn’t even imagine your ride with Verkline or SPL parts underneath & on slicks or even endurance 100s. Maybe your friends wouldn’t mind setting mine up next time I’m in MiHammy. I’ll gladly pay & extend my visit if they can ?.

Good reminder that I need to get my coilovers rebuilt - basic maintenance - so I’m ready to track again by then.
