send it. these cars drive themselves
That’s a great point! Forgot you won’t have all the nannies off.

Do NOT hit the BIG nanny button on the center console. At least until you know the track like the back of your hand and you see the brakes constantly grabbing on the dash (little light that comes on).

I’m not even using the shift paddles at this point. ???. Not sure I will ever turn Nannie’s off.

You know the tracks already and have done your free track day. Time to one click off brotha! Or…. you’re going to chew thru brakes, get the wrong feeling (predictability & instinct) and eventually have the car do something drastic when you least expect it (now that you’re able to go faster).

Once the nannies try to kill you, you might change your mind. ;)
When do you recommend he go full (2 clicks) off? I was thinking when in blue (solo) group. The sooner the better. I just don’t think it’s right in a green group with too many drivers not knowing what to do when Gabe runs off or snap oversteers. He’s going to do it. We all do. But at least he’ll know when and where to push the limits.

When I paid a pro to take me around, they turned em all off and told me no mo nannyLandia or driving Miss Daisy ?. I was in the blue group at the time. Regardless, it was a huge help to go a lot faster and learn what the car is really doing.

Some tracks have helmet requirements, others don't. That includes SA, closed face, etc. Check to see exactly what NOLA requires.

I think you can get the second track day (same Sunday after the free Saturday track day for half price). I would have done that had I known.
Do this or go on the first day of the weekend. I went on the second day and I was the only one that didn't double up. Not a fun time when you're the only one who has never been on the track before.

I recently did my free track day and with having absolutely 0 prior knowledge on a track I will say that if he is comfortable with the power of the car and have enjoyed some canyon runs or windy roads that he will be 100% okay with the one click off! I feel like with Traction Control completely on it kicks in a little too often and pulls timing a bit much for my liking. It's frustrating trying to rip it and the car actively bogging down.. Let me eat those tires up that's half the fun of a RWD with some ponies underneath it! Even just daily driving I find myself turning it off in case i wanna be an A**hole and rip it up the street randomly!

That being said only do what you're comfortable with. No one is judging you in the beginner class. I decided I wanted to push it as much as I felt confident and that resulted in me ending up off track on my 3rd session.. quick lesson learned!

OP go both days if you can. I should be there as well. 2 of my friends will be instructing. They are pretty good. One was 2024 driver of the year and other was 2024 instructor of the year. I think you can request to have one as your instructor

They both used to be my instructor. Give great Instruction. Always willing to help.

Prepare to get hooked. It’s an addictive hobby!!

Yeah. That’s the thing you don’t get at first is you will have an instructor keeping you and everyone else safe. Do some pre school stuff to know the flags and get the track map that might show where the flag people are. It’s really important to know the flags and positions more than just going fast.

Don't think I saw a few things mentioned that can be easy to overlook. I have one track day in the Supra (time of my life it is soooooo much fun) and a bunch from years ago in other cars.

I always check/bring these things:

-Some cash ($100 or so, gate fee, food at track, gas, random stuff)
-Sun protection (sunscreen, hat, long sleeve shirt)
-Folding chair (like you'd take camping or to beach)
-See if fuel is available near or at the track, how much, what octane, cost, etc
-Full tank fuel to start
-See if tire shop is at track, and if they have compressed air availabile if need to reinflate tires or tire repairs
-Otherwise bring a portable tire inflator & tire pressure gauge that you can bleed air from
-Dont set parking brake after a session (if you took some time to cool car down before getting off track probably not a big deal)

Have fun, these cars are a blast.

Good advice

-There’s a food truck at the track for lunch and if you come Saturday they will serve dinner after the track day. Bring water!!

-There’s 93 and higher at the track. Do not let your car run out of gas. If you car runs out of gas, you had a “mechanical failure”. The gas is more expensive at track. Or you can drive a mile away and grab 93 from a Shell station.

You will have a classroom session between track sessions. Good information. Ask questions.

For a beginner, the one that comes with the car where the fuses are in the trunk should be sufficient.

There's also a tow hook in there for your use if it's required by your track.

@archsteve are you doing both days? The weather looks sketchy for Saturday. A lot of guys will say drive in the rain, it makes you a better driver. While that may be true, imo it’s not fun especially for your first time out. Sunday’s weather looks promising so I can understand if you choose to drive on Sunday onIy which is what I plan on doing.

A local friend went for the 1st time and it rained all weekend. I thought for sure, that’d be it. One and done. Nope…. He tracks more than I do now ? And… he’s not afraid of the rain. He was baptized his 1st time out. Beautiful thang ?‍♂

But if you can do two days, do it! Talk about a confidence booster, going from wet to dry. You’ll feel like she’s driving on flypaper with all that extra grip ✊?. And if your instructor agrees, hopefully even knows Zupras or BMWs, will have you one click off on the 2nd dry day. It’s still plenty of protection.
