Had an oil change about 4,600 miles ago, i daily the car and commute to work. i do an oil change around 5000 miles, today on my way to work i received a minimum oil level notification, never had an oil problem till now. (14600 miles) i do push the car pretty every other day typically only at night, is this oil consumption normal? i dont smell anything like oil burning. i have to drive home after work then will be doing an oil change monday and wont be driving the car till then. also, i used 5w40 my last oil change as it was peak summer and i live in Florida.

I’ve had a theory since this consumption started in the 2021’s. While yes some do consume oil, I think people doing the oil change don’t know the difference between liters and quarts. People see 6.5 liters and put 6.5 quarts in and it’s short right away yet it should be 6.9 quarts. Just my 2cents

possible dealer put in wrong amount of oil?
could be, most recent was my friend who works at tires plus so i am currently asking him, he said he can’t remember bc it was months ago but he follows what the work order told him.

might be worth to check the oil relief valve in the oil filter housing cap. Mine is MY24 first oil change i did myself at 3.5k and yes i put in 6.5L but i changed to billet oil cap that i needed to transfer the oem relief valve onto the new billet one. i forced it out and it slightly cracked the relief valve. but didnt think it would do anything. at around 500 miles left to my next oil change of 5k i got the low oil message add oil. Changed the billet oil filter cap to another billet with built in oil relief valve. 2 oil changes later havent gotten a oil low message again.

would this happen if i didn’t replace the oil cap? i’ll check tomorrow during the day, and have you been checking your oil level before your changes recently? if so what has it been sitting at

Wouldn’t be the problem. I only ever put in 6.5 quarts since not all the oil drains out. Check the level with BimmerLink the next day after the first drive and it always shows either 98mm or 99mm. A level of 97mm equates to roughly 6.6 liters.
