Hello fellow enthusiasts. New here and just sold my 992 Carrera T to the dealer.
I have deposit on a 26 premium manual. I just want to get thoughts on what to expect in drive feel.
A little background. This will not be my daily, I have 987.2 cayman track car and wife has a 996. My T was tuned and had downpipes. It was peach to drive but felt too big.

Please share your thoughts
Thanks

Talk about a huge downgrade. As far as the Supra, if you get it tuned, you find it a lot more instant tq…
I look at it from a different driving experience. Haven't driven a front engine car in a while.

Well if I had to make a sort of list of everything that might help you with your decision;

- The Supra will be a downgrade in quality all around, both interior, exterior, and general refinement. However it is still superior to most cars in the 50-60k range imo.
- The base sound system on the Supra isn't great. The JBL sound system I feel is quite good, but a lot of people seem to complain about it. It probably won't match Porsche quality.
- The Supra is a pretty dynamically sound car, especially with some suspension mods/tuning. They're an extremely popular pick for track cars for this reason.
- The Supra has a lot more down-low torque than most Porsche's. You can floor it at 2000 RPM in 6th gear on the highway and go 70-90 faster than most sedans/suv's can at redline.
- It will likely not feel as dynamic or as "refined" as a good Porsche. The manual, while good, is still based off a BMW manual, and you do need some suspension modding to make it feel properly refined.
- If you're a very tall person the Supra might not be for you. Head room is good, but the seats don't go back super far. At 5'11", I wish I could go back 1-2 more inches, but it's pretty comfy overall regardless.
- The Supra is far more responsive to power mods than any non-turbo Porsche if you want to go that route. 500 WHP is very cheap and easy to achieve on this platform, and 600+ isn't bad at all.
- If you care at all about attention, the Supra does get quite a lot of attention. I would argue it's more of an attention grabber than most non-GTx Porsches.
- Lastly, Supra's hold their value well, especially manuals. Thus, it's a safe buy if you just want to try it out to decide if you want it long-term.

Thank you @jmikes for the detailed response. This was very comprehensive. I have gone through many cars and the T was my 12th P-car. My goal for the Supra premium manual will be back roads and tracks use for fast tracks. My Cayman will be my prominet track car. I may daily the Supra twice a week.

I'm sure I will tune it, but looks like that's process. I'm confident for half the price it should bring me 85-90 percent of the fun.

Thanks again.

If setup correctly, the Supra will be faster than any of the sub GT Porsches on track. Even GT4/GT4RS's, depending on driver, will have a hard time.

I was cross shopping GT4's at the time and after four track seasons, I am glad I purchased the Supra instead.

The supra will feel closer to your 996 than the 992. Not as refined, slower (stock), but much more analog and a blast to row gears in. I had a 996tt and currently have a 991.2 RS and M5CS, and honestly reach for the Supra keys pretty often. It’s a lot of fun to get close to 100% out of a light car without the fear of getting arrested after a couple gear shifts.

I just did MCS suspension on the supra with some basic power mods and I can already see it start to wake up. I’m with razorlab…these cars can run with most out there for a fraction of the cost and risk. Enjoy it!

I hope it doesn’t feel like my 99 996, because although the analog driving experience is fun, it’s sloooow. It feels somewhere in between the 992 and 987.2 with 3.8 swap then I think I should be perfect. I also had a 996tt x50 in the past and loved it, but turbo lag was a thing back then.

I didn’t mean in terms of speed. It’s definitely much quicker than a non-turbo 996. I meant it as a comparison to the raw and more mechanical/pure feel to it vs. the luxury of modern expensive sports cars.
