Hi all,

After a few laps in the Nürnburg ring, my charge pipe blew apart, see picture.

Its one of these alu pipes from Alibaba or similar.

Its has been assembled again, but made me thing, if these can be bought too cheap etc.

Is there a way to upgrade this.

I run a stage 2 eth custom map, so boost is pretty high!

Any tips to keep them from going apart?

I would say to buy a longer coupler, but that meth port would block the coverage of an extended coupler and still come off. That charge pipe probably doesn't have a rolled lip to prevent this, im guessing. You know any local welders? Ask them to weld on a lip high enough to stop the charge pipe from popping off................ or just run less boost

I have no idea if people still do this but years ago I used hairspray on the silicon hose before reattaching it. It goes on like a lubricant and when it dries, its sticky/tacky. Solved my issue but this was at least a decade ago.

edit: Obviously clean it REAL good beforehand.

Good idea, but i see some problems with that. Charge temps get to, around 260F or more. Not sure how long the hairspray would last until it turns into glue or maybe go with extreme hold hairspray.

Could go with RTV if you're looking to glue it on but not sure how well the RTV would adhere to silicon.

Could also try making a "JB weld lip" around the pipe for the clamp to secure, but I still wouldn't use that just in case the jb weld shatters and gets sucked into the charge pipe when it pops off.

friend tipped me, to what seems like a solid solution, to the issue.

If you're still on that Alibaba charge pipe last thing you can try before upgrading is to buy or borrow a blow torch and use an aluminum brazing rods to weld a lip high enough for the clamp to secure behind. It's going to be a mess, but if you're looking for a jerry-rigged option, this is the best way to fix it.

The ali-pipe actually has a small colar on the, but obviously a bit to soft in the ‘curve’?!

Hairspray is an old turbo car trick. When wet it helps you assemble more easily, and becomes a light glue once dried

I just noticed that curve. Yea man, just get rid of it. The Do88 charge pipe looks like a good option. Might as well upgrade the intake manifold while you're at it. Or if you don't want to deal with all that coolant draining mess add a water/meth kit + retune while you're upgrading the charge pipe.
