Sadly many wish this platform fails..It took many many many years for the 2JZ to develop 1000hp on the stock bottom end. I realize Papadakis upgraded rods and pistons, but in no time, folks will have the stock setup tuned and dialed in, and 1000hp B58's will be had. Now, would I feel comfortable with 1000hp without upgraded pistons and rods, absolutely not....but neither would I be with a stock bottom-end 2JZ with that much jam.
In less than 6 months, the MKV is already making 1000hp....imagine what the next 2yrs will bring.

That’s true, maybe I added one too many “many” in my last commentI'm not sure if 5 years qualifies as "many many many years," but the 2JZ was already at 850whp (~1000chp, same as the Papadakis B58) stock bottom end on about 3-4 cars by late 1998. And that was the 90's, where everything moved far slower in every way and the technology was nowhere what it is today. By 2001-2002, there were several people with over 900whp stock bottom end. 1000whp followed a few years later, and while it would only last a very short while compared to the 9xx whp cars it was still capable of it regardless.
The B58 shows great potential and has made 700whp stock bottom end, but that's simply not at the level of the 2JZ and does not displace the legend behind that motor (fanboyism be damned).
I do think the B58 can make more than 700whp stock bottom end, but so far everyone has built their engines either from the get go or after 700whp, so there's still a long way to go. You can throw pistons, rods, and ported head at many different motors, even relatively weak ones, and make decent power (SRs and VQs come to mind amongst others). The part everyone should be excited about is the rapid development of parts available with newer technology and communication...
