Looking for a custom tune via BM3 (DP, CAI, E85).

Hi,

I am testing the OTS Stage 2 now with the catless downpipe and the MST Cold Air Intake, I did noticed a big bump over OTS Stage 1, but I think it's time to do it right. Any suggestions? based on experience, I would like to tune with full E85 for daily driving, I can provide the BM3 datalogs.

Jordan Tuning has a full E85 tune available with BM3. There is a thread on here showing his results from a member that has their car tuned fully on E85. I believe with same mods you have.

It seems to be a real topic here, some people with full E85 report fuel cutoff in the high rev range, like, indeed, the fuel pump can't keep up. Several shops and tuners said the same.

On the other hand, Jordan and F80 Paul are tuning several cars with the full E85 and they don't report problems with fuel.

I can only think that the "full" E85 tune from Jordan and Paul is just a E50 or E60 blend and people claim is full E85 when is not.

I could be wrong, but how can you get more fuel from a pump at its limit? Reducing the boost and having a lean AFR? Technically you could run E85 but not making full use of it right? I am no tuner though.

If I remember right, pump gas AFR at stoichiometery is 14.7. While E85 is 9.8. I believe some people misunderstand relationship between the two fuels. I’m not a tuner either but someone can correct me but you can run a little leaner on E. It is rated around 105 octane but you will have to use in the neighborhood of 30% more than on pump. I had gotten into E85 a long time ago using a partial mixture to pass emissions (sniffer test) on one of my cars. I would reach out to a tuner and question them out about how much E they are actually tuning on. I can see the potential to being there on that fuel.

That's interesting, I am using the OTS E30 Stage 2 from BM3 and the AFR was on the 12, for a E30 blend I would expect 11 right? Here is the log:

We did full e85 on stock turbo and Pure 700 before moving to our EFR9280 DocRace kit. you simply keep the car within the HPFP limits if running solely stock fuel system this is nothing new. For ease of not having to really mix, e85 is doable if the owner doesnt want max power and is ok with a little less power and etc. You can make more power on E50.

i can only speak for myself as i dont much pay attention to other tuners. but we definitely did e85 a while ago. e30, e40, e50, e60, e70, and e85 to be exact. we havent done e99 yet though, but will in the near future now that we have Port injection on our car i can really see where the stock LPFP stuggles.

Yes, I guess I am going to go with full E85. I noticed that even the stock DME (with California gas 91 Oct ) I have knocking, I checked with Costco gas, Shell and Chevron, same result. Unless something is really wrong with my engine, I think the gas in Ca is hurting, not only my car but several FI cars, I would like to get rid of that with E85, even if I don't reach the full potential or the power of let's say E50.

To my surprise, the Shell E85 pumps exactly 85% Ethanol, I was impressed with the accuracy. Still I'll keep an eye every once in a while to see if they maintain this, by rule they need to provide at least E70. But this is California, we never have really cold weather, so I guess that's why we have good E85.

Nothing wrong with the engine. The DME will correct and pull timing at some point no matter what fuel you use. As long as its not excessive (more than -3) across multiple cylinders all the time you're fine

I'm a bit confused by the fuel options and what might be best for me. Is there a good guide to read somewhere? Does anyone have a chart with the different fuel options and what the power looks like with a custom tune between the different options? I'm also confused as to when it's a good idea to add a meth kit? Halp.

How can I assess if the knock was real or not? for instance I was logging on my run in the drag strip and I had 3 knocks and from what I can see in the log it was between shifts, first when changing from third to fourth and then from fourth to fifth gear, in this last shift I see some overboost as well:

The black like in the bottom with three spikes is the knock count, I see the over boost when changing gears, so I guess the excess of compressed air/fuel is pre igniting, this is my rookie analysis, but would you help me understand the severity of this. I am using the OTS E30 tune from BM3, not sure if I should revert to stock map to avoid this, or if this is expected.

If you run an e50 map how precise does the actual e% need to be? Maybe +- 5%? I know ethanol is more tolerant of AFR variation than straight gasoline. I would think when mixing fuels at the pump erring a bit on the side of slightly less ethanol would be reasonable if you can't measure exactly what is in the tank.

Just a word of caution guys, With E85 it really is not a matter of if but when you develop issues.
I managed to run it for 5-6 weeks on a S55 platform, also one of the mentioned tuners here and 3 injectors got stuck causing 3k + worth of repairs. The tuner of course swears it has nothing to do with a tune Or E85 but he would swear wouldn’t he, e85 is his bread and butter and everyone is jumping on this bandwagon.
Fact is I did the same thing, browsed forums decided to do the tune and very quickly regretted it.
Btw all the cycling of fuel etc that’s recommended I did properly, everything was done right but doesn’t matter.

After this and more research I realized that almost all injector issues mentioned on forums are E85 related.
I am back on 93 running a stage 2 tune and no issues whatsoever with the car... so if you really want to daily drive e85, you can do it... but it’s a big gamble and there’s a HUGE chance you re gonna have to deal with some negative consequences.
