Dealership in San Diego doing MSRP for the A61 Edition? I just don't see that happening after how much they marked up the Launch Editions.
I don't think they'd sell an A61 Edition for MSRP either; we'd have to go back 30+ years after all :)

I've put down a deposit on a '20 SE. It could be a month or 2 before the dealer can even place the order. They don't have '20 model codes yet, and they must have a model code to place an order with Toyota. The first dealer I spoke with would not commit to MSRP, insisting on keeping their "market price" increase in play. The other agreed to sell the car at MSRP, and they got the deposit. Given current sales figures, it's hard to fathom MSRP + "market value" upcharges going on 4 months from now, though it does seem the car has potential to be a long term winner for Toyota.

Yeah exactly. They aren't selling like they thought they would so I'm sure they're happy to get MSRP for them. Not all the LE sold for more than MSRP and definitely not all the regular models. There seems to be plenty of stock everywhere. I think the dealers, most of them anyway, learned their lesson with upcharging the Supra.

Yeah. The dealers that won't agree to MSRP are asking you to pay $1000 to get in a line of people waiting to be price gouged. If #1 refuses their arbitrary MSRP+ mark up, they go to #2, etc., until someone agrees to get soaked, or the car goes unsold until they drop the price. I understand being willing to pay to get something you don't want to wait any longer for-there's value in that time you'll be enjoying the car. I've done that, just not to any great expense. It's not like Toyota is curbing production (except the limited unit count SEs) to create artificial shortages, increasing demand/prices. There's stock on the ground, and prices have been falling. I suppose they are limiting the SE cars, and a non SE could be had cheaper, but I'm willing to pay sticker for the specific car I want...If Toyota wanted, they could cut production back until prices rose, but that's a price/volume/demand game that's difficult to speculate, and has potential to alienate consumers. Rolex are the master of this game, for example, and with Chinese markets open and demand high, they are seeing record profits.

Yup, which is why I got a bill of sale that says in writing "MSRP plus doc fee plus tag plus tax" so there's no denying that was the deal.

Again. This has happened before and the dealership just added markup. You are not guaranteed anything.

That's not a dealership that would ever get my money, no matter how much I wanted the car. Sadly the one closest to me (and the largest by volume here) is one of those... shadiest shitshow I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing. Since we were never closer than $10K apart on negotiating, I walked... and paid MSRP (real MSRP... no markup at all) at a different one across town.

With an allocation in writing with deposit... they either have an idiot with a blank check standing in line, or they will honor the original deal... IME at least. I think after what they did with the "Launch Edition" guys the first round... there won't be as many "blank check guys" this time. I could be mistaken however.

Well I have my deposit in and have in writing MSRP. This was the one place in SD that was selling the 2020's for MSRP hence why I reached out to them. I'll let you know how it turns out in a few months.

I am interested in ordering a 2.0 myself now for a project car so I went into my local dealership and they donā€™t have any kind of information on 2021 and no clue when they would get one in. I said that there were people on forums already ordering them, and they said thatā€™s not even possible. :/ They didnā€™t feel comfortable taking a deposit from me either because they are still trying to get allocate 2020ā€™s for certain customers that were still waiting on certain colors. As far as huge discounts on 2020, they laughed. Maybe a few thousand off MSRP but definitely not what somebody said for under $50k for a prem. They said itā€™s still a limited production car not a Corolla.

Go in again in 3 months. They'll be doing whatever they can to clear out stock.

I donā€™t need a 2020 3.0. Already got one :). I am getting a 2.0 to replace my Honda race car.

I guess it really depends on where you go. A smaller town/city with only a few Supra's most likely wont discount it that big but bigger cities with a high volume dealership will get rid of it as soon as they can.

For e.g: I live in VA and koons is one of the biggest dealer here. At any given time they have 15 supras on their lot. I have seen upto $4800 discount on a black Supra. and there's a lot of other dealers carrying Supra's a lot. I'm more like in DMV area which means i'm 45 mins away from D.C and MD so I can practically go anywhere to get the best deal and they know it lol so the customer has more leverage around here.

Yeah, if you only have one Toyota dealership within 100 miles or more from your location... you're pretty much at their mercy. Unfortunately, that also applies to any warranty service you might require as well... Although I would definitely prefer to not drive 25 miles across town to get service, I take comfort in the fact that I can do so if I'm not hearing the answers I expect at the closest one.

Same here, I got 4 Toyota dealers within a half hour, triple that within an hour driving distance.
