Ever since i got the car on June 5th of 2020, we've been contacting the dealership about my taillights having cracks from the inside of the housing, along with some other issues we've seen upon inspection. The major one I was worried about are the taillights.

- Originally they said that they will look over it, as they did (compared to another supra in the lot)
- Next they said they're going to order the replacement taillights but will take a while since it would have to "come from Germany" (BS i called other toyota dealers around the area and they had some in stock)
- its now been 2 months and they tell me that the Toyota advisor that came and look over to compare my car said that "it's not under warranty" and that "it's not a defect"

Who on their right mind would say that a cracking taillight is not a defect?!
I need help/suggestion guys on how i can escalate things to get it fixed/replaced.
I already talked to my sales person and the GM and the Service Manager.

That can not be normal! Maybe try a different dealer. I know I have a really good relationship with my gm who I send tons of business and they’ve gone out of their way to fix things under warranty that weren’t. I.e I had a land cruiser and when I lifted it the Kdss was making the car lean to one side and I tried to undo the valve and I broke a hex wrench inside the Allen and the dealer replaced the whole kdss valve assembly and even needed a special Toyota tool to refill and pressureize the kdss. All done under warranty

Lol good luck. Toyota is not willing to fix anything with these cars. They do not support this car or stand behind it. Not sure if its because BMW makes it or what. Its a shame.

You need to go to a different dealership. My dealer bent over backwards for me for just a small imperfection in my seat. The replacement ones they received had issues and they sent it back until they got a perfect one. Its strange that some dealers will not support the car while others will literally go above and beyond expectations.

Have you tried a different dealership? I think if they replace it, it'll eventually crack again; similar to the cracked emblems.

This is the impression/vibe that I've gotten from 3 Toyota dealerships so far in San Diego. They didn't seem excited to show off their new toy like other Toyota models past and present. It's more like "yep, that is the new supra..." No passion, no excitement and no pressure to make sure I leave the dealership with one.

I've read similar views on the FT86 forum with the FR-S/86 as well. It's like a parent to stepchild mentality, "I love you but you're not my child".

Yea, when I originally told them I wanted to get a Supra, It felt more of like "Oh, you want a supra?.. here's one." Honestly just selling it to get it over with and get their half of the bargain, and after everything is done. "You're on your own"

My original plan was to put some over lay on top of the taillights so that things like these wont happen since the tail light sticks out from the back. I dont want to do it yet because I was waiting for "my new ones"

I dont want to "put a band-aid" over a problem without getting it fixed or replaced..

I have a feeling if I do go to another dealership, I'll just be told to "go to your original dealer because we didn't sell you the car, it's not our problem"..

Any suggestion on what to tell them?

you can go to any Toyota dealer for warranty work. Doesn't have to be where you bought your car.

Totally a guess: They had high hopes that this car would sell much better and they'd mark them up crazy. Neither happened along with non-Toyota parts and BMW interfaces, limitations, extra training they're not used to.... probably made them angry... I don't know maybe for them it's less profitable both in sales and service.

Mine actually came with cracked emblems along with other issues like torn window trim on the passenger side. and cracked turn signal on my side mirror etc.

which they all fixed. but not the Tail lights... which was my biggest concern.

Hard to believe dealers can be like this. Why would they care to replace something or not? Does it come directly out of their pockets? Ridiculous. Hope you get it fixed up soon

Geeez, what it a demo car? There shouldn't be any problem with you going to another dealer. Your vehicle and you are not tied to the dealer that sold you the car other then convenience. In fact, service and sales don't have a direct relationship unless it's to get new items installed on a new car.

The Toyota dealership should honor that cracked tail light but I wouldn't be surprised if it came back again.
