Why Scion FR-S Sales Have Plunged: The Life and Times of an Ultra-Niche Product
When Toyota announced it was going to...
Agreed. Do people really buy their cars based on who developed the engine? Well a few might but I can't see many doing that. It's not like the engine will have a BMW logo on it.
The only reason we still see NA v8's in sports cars is pretty much to appease the american muscle car buying crowd. If they ever replaced it with a V6 like BMW did with the M3/M4, they would lose their minds.
I can think of a few manufacturers without genuine super/hypercars but which could easily make one. Mercedes and BMW come to mind.
Don't think that's gonna happen thankfully. If they were going to do that they wouldn't have bothered to come out with the FT-1 concept at all. We would have...
BMW M3/M4 only has 425hp so it'd take some significant tweaking by engineers to get it to 500+ hp reliably.
Honestly tho the Supra would lose some luster for me if Toyota just stuck a BMW engine in there. :(
That would be pretty damn cool.
My bet is one some kind of eco type car that's hydrogen or electric based. But please please let it be some kind of RWD based sports car.
Intersting. Hadn't even thought of the fact that the design hasn't been performance tested in a wind tunnel. So even if we like the front end design and it passes safety standards it may or may not work well for aerodynamics :dunno:
Yea the MKV Supra wouldn't look right at all with round lights. Need something angular to look modern.
Just like how the C7 Corvette Stingray wouldn't look right with the classic round Corvette tail lights.
Who knows the trickle down effect might reach all models at some point, even appliances on wheels like the Camry. It might not get a full carbon fiber body but other weight saving technologies and processes maybe eventually make their way into the entire Toyota lineup to increase efficiency and...
I don't expect this exact nose style to make it either. But it better not be as boring as that yellow Supra. Theres got to be something in between that looks good while also satisfying safety requirements.
Yea few cars could compete with the GT-R in electronic wizardry. It's a purpose built race car really, which is not what the MKV Supra will be (at least I'd prefer it not). Traditional sports cars are meant to be comfortable and good for both daily driving and occasional track work. That's one...
There really is nothing like a high revving naturally aspirated V8 engine for track work. That's why I got respect for what Ford is offering in the GT350 package. It should kill it out on the track.
For 99% of driving tho a TT v6 with some lovely torque would suit me just fine.
I definitely see some Enzo and F1 in the nose, but i'd expect that to be the part that changes the most. It'll definitely be the most controversial and like it or not companies tend to design for the mainstream. That's not so much my preference as I just wanna see a concept that gives us a...
