The overall impression I get from various sources I've read is that the days of manufacturers overbuilding engines to the point where they can easily handle a 50% or more power boost with a few mods is pretty much over. Powerplant and drivetrain engineering have become both more precise (so...
That shot is oblique, favouring the rear quarter, can't say anything definitive about the nose from it as it's partially hidden.
I agree that 6 inches of excess front bumper overhang might overstate things a bit, probably more like 3-4", but even that has a big impact on how the front looks.
Just because they didn't on that particular SUV doesn't mean they don't or won't on other vehicles. On that full-side profile shot of the prototype posted above, the headlights were buried several inches back from the front of the bumper- fairly convincing evidence that the nose had some added...
In that first shot in A70TTR's post above, there is no way the front bumper is production on that prototype - there looks to be a good 6" of extension. The tail also has some added bulk lower down but it's not as substantial. Other shots show the area above the rear wheel wells to be padded out...
Oh, you are talking about tire width. See your point. The 306 HP Type R only has 245s all round, and it's a reasonably light car at a little over 3100 lbs.
That Supra profile better be way off base - the front overhang looks horrible. The one at the rear ain't so great either.
I suspect there is still quite a bit of padding etc. under the camo that extends the overhangs. There certainly is on the rear "shoulders", as shown in a photo I posted...
I find them too flat, plain and cheap looking for such an expensive car. They need to be more prominent, sculpted and jewel-like. The Miata's look better IMO.
One of the prototypes photographed was running 18s, and one 19s. I think 18s are ideal for the lower powered version - aggressive but not over the top like the 20s on a Cayman or Boxster. It's about proportion - the Golf and especially the Type R are taller cars so they need proportionately...
That Vantage is a beautiful car (except for the headlights), but I hope the Supra is shorter. I don't want a Vette-style aircraft carrier deck for a hood.
Wow. I'd absolutely love it to be that compact but I doubt it will be. Maybe the big wheels make it look shorter than it really is.
For context, length in inches (rounded to nearest inch):
Miata (2017): 154
GT86: 167
Golf R: 169
C7 Vette: 177
G6 Mustang: 188
My guess is somewhere between the...
First mod will be to my bank balance when I cut a cheque for the car....
Can't see myself doing anything other than a winter rim/tire package, maybe ceramic for a bit of paint protection.
Looks great, and Telsa's claimed performance specs are beyond impressive, they are stunning:
Top speed: 250 mph
0-60: 1.9 seconds
0-100: 4.2 (you might need one of those military pilot g-force suits to ensure you don't black out)
1/4 mile: 8.9
620 mile range
You'll need to search your sofa for...
^ LOL are you 6'6"? The driver's side seat has a height adjustment which would get you a few inches lower than that. At 5"11" I had tons of headroom top up, could easily fit a helmet . A bit tight on knee room though, had to push back a bit further from my ideal leg reach to the clutch.
CIAS...
Try driving an ND Miata sometime (see below) - it meets all current safety regs and still manages to have a nice low cowl with great forward sightlines - so it can be done. But it's certainly the case that most modern sporty cars don't get near the forward visibility of say an old Honda Prelude...
This quote from a review of the AMG GT C over on Jalopnik got me wondering if there will be a similar (if less pronounced) issue with the Supra:
And the GT C is hard to see out of, even with the top down. The belt line is so high, the nose sticks out so far and you’re sitting so low down that...
^ Another video showing the prototype's sound to be completely free of character - compared to the 911/Cayman (?) behind it, it's a cruel joke.
With any luck that is not the production exhaust and we'll get something far better.
